Bender's
Shifter |
|
|
|
This shifter is SAWEET! But the lockout
for the "park" position was not yet completed when the crawler
arrived in San Diego. I called Bender and he explained how
I should build the lockout. His system seemed overly
complicated and too bling for my taste so I took his idea and
disimproved on it. The system is quite simple:
Slide the lever left and you cannot pass
between park and reverse. |
 |
 |
|
When you want to pass between reverse and
park, lift the lever and slide right. Notice how the
handy-dandy zip-tie acts as a spring keeping the lever in
position in the bumps! This was clearly not planned, but
instead, an amazing phenomenon that was totally unexpected but
very welcome. I guess you could call it a miracle! |
 |
 |
|
Then, slide it back left and it retains the
shifter from passing back in the other direction. Wanna
theftproof you rig? Get a padlock and lock the shifter in
Park! AMAZING and only a couple of bucks. BUT in
order to be sure it holds, you'd better spend a little extra $
for the good
MasterLock. |

|
Here's a wide shot so you can see how it was
mounted. I see that it's not clear in the picture but for quick
mounting, I used a #10 thumbscrew from a CB mount and a
thumbscrew style nut on the backside of a small "L" bracket that
was then screwed from the backside (to make it all look cleaner)
with a drywall screw. |

Hope this inspires you to take on automotive
projects of your own! Now go to the top of your browser
and hit "back". Hit it a few times and it will take you
back to the porn website you were surfing a lil while ago.
MUCH better content there!
