I was checking out the new spyntech kits solid axle is selling to replace the unit bearings on dodges and fords. I have an 05 dodge 3500 and solid only sells a kit up to 04. Whats the difference between years?
Last unit hub i saw go took out the caliper and the pads before the rig got off the road, $700 later its fixed. Doesnt look so bad from that angle. BTW, its alot easier to find D60 wheel bearings then an 05 dodge unit hub in BFE.
I used ballistic fab conversion on my '05 dodge. You can by just what you need and source other parts locally. The only issue I had with mine is I had to take 1-16" off the ballistic fab kit to allow the stock wheels to fit. Not a bad price for a one stop shop if you go that route.
Are you running a snowplow up front? People have good luck with the ford ones here. The cheapy replacements are 150$ or so. I'm more pissed about the little free spin needle bearings ruining the stub shafts on my Ford. Who wants to replace those thing annually.
I put in a Dynatrac hub eliminator kit on a customers Dodge. Nice kit. Very complete. Even kept the abs. I've got some pics I may post later.
He says that he has gained 4 mpg, and I know that if I ever have to change out ball joints on the thing, I won't be spending another hour beating the unit bearings out.
I've got one of the Solid Axle Spyntec kits in my E350. Service was top notch as is the product. Even to the point that they custom made mine to a 6x6.5 bolt pattern for my 03 F350 front end.
very straightforward install and knowing I can get parts at any neighborhood parts shop to rebuild it for less than the cost of a single unit bearing is good.
