I know it's been covered but I was wanting to see if any Dodge guys are running this setup?
I have a 2000 1500 with 1 tons, locked, etc, etc. I put in the 241j (rock-trac) 4 years ago, straight bolt in. Loved the 4:1. But it seems that towing/dd/lots of crawling this case doesn't survive under my rig. I have blown it up twice now. Seems that there is and has been a continuous oiling issue to the input bearing as well as the planetary is destroyed. Wipes out the tail shaft in the trans both times. The teeth look as if I file every input/output tooth down to sharp edges. Input bearing is wasted and there is alot of heat marks. I talked to Randy at Advanced Adapters, looking into the Atlas 4.3, but he was honest and told me I may have the same issues as the rock-trac. Talked to Stephen at ORD and he agreed it was an oiling issue and also agreed that logically my 241j should survive no issues. He brought up the setup they use on the ua chevy and I really got to thinking.
If the Atlas 4.3 is $2300+ with aluminum case and is only 2 speed...why not spend roughly the same amount for the Magnum/205 setup that is iron cased. Magnum alone matched to trans and with new 32 input for 205 is $1990 plus driveshaft changes and the actual cost of a 205 (hopefully I can find a ford one in the local yard).
Just having a hard time justifying another $$2500 plus on my rig.
Another option is rebuilding my 241j again, 3rd time, and trying what AA told me and run 10w-30 in the t case instead of atf...
Input please.
