the tranny has been doing great and fluid level and color
were excellant. i pulled up to a stop light , it made some weird
noises like grumbling or clunking. and then it wouldnt go
untill the rpm's built up. what i mean , is that no matter if
its in 1st,2nd,drive,overdrive,or reverse. it will start slowly moving
as i give it more gas. also to note ,is that when put it into
gear , it does shift, but it wont move till the rpms build up .

its a 700r4

i dropped it at a tranny shop to let them see, but i figured i
would ask opinions in here , so i dont get shafted by the shop
to bad.

its a 1988 truck , but the tranny is a 1987,
it is also hook to a np207 t-case.

the shop called me today and said the clutches are all good , but the pump went bad and said something about the problem started when the govener got stuck .
does this sound cool?
its costing me about 350.00 to repair and he wil give me a 6
month warrenty.

My first question would be how the governor got stuck, and how that contributed to the pump going out.
I can by the pump going out, because with the symptoms you described, thats normally the way a tranny responds when that goes south.
Sticking governor, I'm not to sure about.... I would call a different tranny shop and give them the senario and see what they say.:skull:

well i am not very familiar with automatics, so i am not sure how
the governer works. but i just put this tranny in about two
weeks ago , so i asked him if i could have done something
while installing it to make the gov. stick and he said no.
there are a few tranny shops around here but none of them do
bench repairs. they mainly pull it , re-buildit, re-install it. so
when you ask them questions they just say " sounds like you
need a new tranny." so , that is why my choices are limited.
times are tough right now , so i would rather spend 400 with
a warrenty , then spend 900 with a warrenty.

thanks for your input/

the tranny i put in was used that i got from someone
who assumed it was good , becouse it was working when he pulled , and i also thought it was good.
just a fluke thing.

well for $350.00 , he took it apart and found out what was wrong and what needed to be replaced. he is going to replace the
pump and the torque converter for that price , clean it and
put it back together, plus all the gaskets and "o" rings.

he said my governer was stuck and that is what he said
caused the problems. so , we will see.

thank for your help. i hoping i can have it back by this weekend so i can go wheelin next weekend and fawk it up again , lol:D

For the pump and torque convertor, and the labor involved, the price is pretty good!
You saved yourself a ton of money by just taking the removed tranny in, otherwise removing a 4X tranny would have cost$$$.
At least now you know you have a good tranny and a warrenty to boot!
Good luck!:skull:

the govenor being stuck has absolutely nothing to do with your pump failure! the govenor is a valve assembly on the output shaft of the trans and controlls upshift only. therefor even if the govenor was stuck solid the truck would still go forward and backwards just fine, although it might not upshift and if it did, it would shift super late and hard.
sounds to me like the converter took a dive and wiped out the pump, maybe the pump rotor got damaged during installation and let go, causing both units to fail. that scenario is pretty common and a whole lot more likely.:smokin:
