Well?

I think I know my answer. I originally intended to clean up my 75 and use it as a DD then build the 74, but that's not always how things work out. It's going the full 9 yards (SOA, trimmed fenders, 36"'s), 10 yards would be FW 60's.

I have my street Scout I guess it's kinda restored. It's '70 800A SR2, fact 304, automatic and other doohickeys. I sprung it over on Dana 44s and have 33s on cyclones on it. It looks big pimpin' but I just don't have a use for a Scout that I can't roll for fun. I'm going to fix a few little odds and ends and sell it. I really like it and all and I was going to give it to the girlfriend for a commuter but her store just shut down and she now has a 50 mile commute everyday. I don't think an IH rolling on $600 in tires and getting 10 MPG is the best idea for a commuter car. I also just picked up a '79 Cherokee Cheif that'll have a 401 and fill the tow rig roll a lot better then the poor Scout could have. We just got back from looking at Jettas, we'll probably get one of those to rack up the miles on. I'm hoping I can get pretty good money for the Street Scout I've already had several people offer to buy it when it wasn't for sale. I'll have to get some digi pics and see what you guys think. As for my Rock Scout you'd have to be crazy to want to restore that beater. I definately have respect for the people who put all the time and love into restoring a Scout but it's just not for me. I''d rather beat the holy hell out of them.

I'm not "restoring" my scout, but I want it to look decent when I'm "done" with it. So I'm doing some body work and I'm gonna put a $300.00 paint job on it. (I'll be painting it) That also gives me the burdon of putting some armor on it and careful wheelin' to protect it on the trail

Some day I WILL have a nice scout. I love a restored tough looking scout. Something like this one:

but with more tire. And a caddy engine again. I LOVE THOSE !!!

I say violate them to the furthest extent possible My trail rig is just about finished, well are they ever finished? I'm now gonna start on a pro-street scout II I have a beautiful completely rust free tub that I could restore but why? that would be the reasonable thing to do. At this point the plans are for a camaro subframe, a big block and a million other little goodies I'm just never happy with a stock rig

You can't have just one..

I want one mild-modified ("resto-mod") daily driver SII. I wouldn't mind a second TD for mileage tho'.. Definitely K.I.S.S. for reliability and safety.

One modified for trail riding.

One for racing.

Then you need the fullsizes in the fleet..
But back to the stock/mod.. Personally, I'm not into the "numbers matching" bit. If I had something particularly rare and in pristine condition - sure. But no way I'm going to pay $$$ for one, or find one cheap in that condition.

And if I'm going to do ANY work towards "restoring" my rig, I'm going to UPGRADE while I'm at it.

Why restore a Scout 800 to have a nice clean driver and keep the drum brakes? If you have a 6-lug 3/4T you're SOL on drums from the start.. if I had one in good condition I'd have to park it and only drive it to shows just so the drums would last. Not my style.

That said, I support the "resto-mod" idea - repair/refurbish to NEAR stock, or to something that RESEMBLES stock.

To me, that would include a clean rig with a 4" bolt-on lift and 32s that can be driven by your grandmother to church on Sunday. Mild-mannered, but still an effective Scout.

Just a glance and you know it's a Scout II..

A very different "style" than Scoutillac's Bobbed 'Binder. There's not "resto" or "stock-like" to it!

Which is cool in a totally different way.

I have tried to go the restore route on acouple scouts to use as daily driver/show rig with a 1979 Midias traveler (had a 3 page line set ticket, or my current 1980 TD that was built on the last day and is 15th to the last one built, but i always end up modifing them one way or another. This is what i think if you are going to go through all the work why make it the way it was when you can make it better with the same amount of time. Make it the way you want it not the way some ones else would want it
