ok i am having a problem with my milemarker winch. its ummmm not working:confused:
its not a regular one it a military 10500 that they use on hummers. i got it last year at a very good price new in the crate  i have never had the chance to use it after i hooked it all up other than to spool on the cable. the only diffrence i can see between it and the civilian one is the way the selenoids are mounted (i had to change them to 12v) it will spool with no load in both high and low but today (in the fawking cold) while pulling someone out it would not pull under load. it would just make its noise with no pulling.
not enuf fluid? not enuf gpm? psi? cavatation?
its fawking cold and would like to not be freezing my butt off fixing it
thanks, Doc
edit: when i spooled it on it was under load so what gives

mine did that once, here the pin that allows engagement or freespool hadn't gone down all the way to engage it.
While holding in the "in" button push straight down on the lever, hopefully it'll click down into place.

Thats a defect in most of them. I am aware of a guy who was just tennsioning his cable who's new truck ended up in a creek on it's side because that thing poped into free spool with a rolling load on a slight incline as he was checking that it wasn't birds nesting. Haven't seen the guy in a while but he hired a lawyer over it.
A buddy got rid of his because it did this. Sent it to MM and they "repaired it" and it did it again. So it was replaced with a 8274.
I would have figgured they would have redisgned that part by now. It's been a complaint for years.
The correct method (safer) to ensure the pins are fully engaged is to flip the lever to engage the gear, and then to pull the cable out by hand, slowly. Watch for the pin engaging.
If you just start spinning the winch motor, it's not a 100% guarentee that it will engage 100% as it will get partially caught / engaged and not completely. Then when the serious load comes on it it can pop out. Not worth it.
Always flip the pin, and engage by hand.
Merv.
