i am trashing a set of 35in radials (my daily driver) in the snow right now and they are working great. i assume they would work well in mud but havent had a chance to test them. If you are looking for a mud terain there are better mud suited tires out there . are you looking for a comprimise?? just get a pair of boggers and be done with it:flipoff2: or do you want a multi pourpose tire?

To many people have asked this question. Why didn't you search? You would have found all the info you needed.

They don't work good in the mud. They are good for loose dirt, rocks, snow, sand, and highways. I think they are a great tire, but they don't work in the mud too well.

That's what i've found in my search when i was interested in this tire about 6 months ago.

Seen them working head to head with swampers (TSLs) on loose dirt/mud on top of rocks and they werent as good as the TSLs.

ran a set of the 35" radial claws for a while...they SUCKED ASS...especially in wet conditions. Ran them up in Mass......mud/rocks/roots.....typical East Coast stuff.

also very stiff....i had them aired WAY down and still nothing :(

i would suspect the Bias ply should be better because there are more smaller lugs.

Hands down.....No comparison to the TSL/SX's i have now

I was going to post a question about Claws vs. TSL Radials for a daily driver that will see moderate trail and mud, minimal rock crawling, and then, in an evolutionary leap from newbie to [enter post-newbie-nickname here], I searched and found my own answer. Holy crap, the kid can learn after all! According to this thread, the general consensus is that claws in mud suck start ceased up harley engines, and that's not good. Since I live in the great state of Washington, even if I lived on rocks, I'd still see more mud than anything else. I'll be buying TSL radials. 33x12.50x15 on 15x8s.

If you are going mud boggin' then stay away from those tires!! Seriously, they suck A LOT in mud. We have them on our comp buggy and they are awesome on rocks but when the dirt gets loose and deep, it takes a lot of wheelspin to get those things to clean themselves.
Also a little tip for the rockcrawlers- run them reverse becuase they slide off EVERYTHING. When you run them reverse it just forces the rock to stay on the thread, and use those sidebiters becuase they are unbeleavable!

I run 37" claws
Got to run them thru mud once:(
thought they worked great.
keep the wheel speed up, they cleaned nicley, thru alot of mud.
forward traction inpresive, side traction poor.

As a daily driven tire I think TSL may last longer

I ran a set of 35" bias for six months a few years back. Sucked in mud. Super sucked for road driving. They did fine on the rocks and rutted trails around OK. They are stiff as shit though and had to be ran at a max of 4-6 lbs if you really wanted the sidebiters to do anything. If it matters I will probably get a set of the 46's for TJ once the 44" swampers are too cut up.

Mark I'm sorry to call you on this, Mark... but you're just, well, wrong. One of the 3 rigs whose there on nearly every trail I run has a set of claws. They work okay now that his CJ has an EFI 302 in it... back with the 258 they werent' worth a damn thing. Unless you spin them like crazy (the tires won't clean until the auto hits third gear) they don't work for crap.

I ran TSLs and the other two CJs run boggers for reference. Even with a useless 22RE attempting to spin them, my TSLs would keep up with a set of Claws spun by a V8. I think that says something.

Besides, I've seen the damp patches of soil at Avalance Ranch and on your AZ trails you boys called "mud". That's not mud. :flipoff2:

I ran 33" radial claws for a year, and well, they sucked.

I ran them in sand, mud and a little bit of rocks. They don't clean out for shit, and they don't flex much. I ran them at 15psi and they barely moved.

I will say this though. They had great sidewall grab. All depends on what your doing I reckon.

Why not run TrXus MT's instead of TSL radials.

used to have them, way to short for a 35, but overall not to bad a tire. I like swampers, or MTR's or Krawlers.

I'm going to call you on this: As much as I hate those claws performance in mud, they HOOK on rocks. The reason your tires didn't flex is because 15PSI is street pressure. They're bias plies, buddy. Try somewhere between 5 and 9 PSI. ;)

just to interject something here,
they are called "BAJA" claws, not MUD claws.
they are not outstanding in the mud i have been in, but work as good as anything else i have used.

i havent had any tsls on my rig yet. i decided to try these instead of 38x12.50s sx on my rig.

they ride decent for 37s, and are a bit squirrley on wet pavement, the spool helps with that too.

but so far they have been tough and dig good in everything else i have used them for.

we need some more rain here so i can wheel more:(

I have to say my bias claws kick ass on wet pavement, especially in rain filled ruts on the freeway where I've had other cars and trucks hydroplane.

I like to do snow in the winter, and have found them to be a little too agressive. I go easy on the gas but they still dig and sink pretty easily. But then... they are just 'lil 33"s :p

I think my next set of tires will be MTRs, as from what I've read they're a good not-TOO-agressive compromise.
