So I acted on impulse and purchased a 24 spline diff to replace my blown 10 spline rear diff. The big question is - can I use my third member from the10 spline diff to house the new 24 spline set-up ?

Yup...Just don't blink and forget which bearing cap goes with what diff (and which side)....

I did that once (shoulda' marked them...Duhh). I guess, I guessed right...Though with my rig I doubt I would have noticed anyway!
