: Diff Lock Mods

I am working on a rock crawler project with MOG 404 axles. I would like to know what everyone has done to modify the locking mechanism. I have done some research and some people have done it with cables, while others pnuematicly. I'd like to see some pics or tech on locker modification.

My thought is to find a lever controled cable with a gate to keep the locker engaged. Anyone know of such an off the self item? Pics?

Lastly, my diffs return to the "open" position. Is there any mod to change this? Also those with modified engagement systems, how do you keep pressure on the lever until the dog clutch engages.

Thanks in advance.

I plan to use old e'brake cables out of a junkyard. Maybe the Toy style and mount it just under the dash. Just pull on it and the preload will engage it whenever the gears mesh together, and keep it engaged until disengaged.

I took a linear actuator. Itīs still a test phase. It works so far perfect without a problem. Now i am going to make a proper installation.

How about an OX locker shifter and cable?

Thanks for the replys, keep 'em coming.

I really like the looks of that OX locker engagement lever. I might have to look into that. I wonder how much travel it has and if it'll work.

Also look into Morse Controls. They make a bunch of different shifters, hydraulic controls, hand throttles and other devices.

Hello guy,

Did you find a solution that work, pneumatic or electric ?
Do you have pics of them ?
Thank you for help.

I haven't yet tackled the diff lock controls yet. That will actually be a ways off. I think I am going to try pneumatics, but I will supply pics once I figure something out.

Anyone else have installs and pics?

I just went with cables that I can pull and give them a 1/4 turn to lock them. I think that this style of cable is used for setting idel on diesel engines. Also used the factory spring preload setup so that I can just pull the cables and lock them and the factory spring preload setup engauges the locker when the splines line up. Very simple, very foolproof and works well although the cables do take a bit of force to pull them and lock them.

The best bit about this setup is that when I want to disengauge the lockers I can still tell whether thay are in or not cause the cable handpiece will still sit up a bit if the lockers still in.

close up pic of the diff end with the factory preload setup on the end of the push pull cable.

other end of the cables. The thing is with these cables is that you have to get them made the correct length cause they dont like going around corners.
