I've been wondering why there seems to be such animosity towards the sticky competition tires. You sure don't hear people complaining about special compound autocross tires so what's all the fuss about? Seems to me that specialized rockcrawling tires are a good idea and the sooner they are openly available the better.

Seriously, my production MTR's are the stickiest tires I've run. If I ever got the opportunity, I would try the sticky Krawlers just to see how they are.

Hey guys, these BFG's aren't a soft tire, its just a different compound with a slower rebound. They tried something cool and it worked, thats competition baby. I bet the mtr's durometer reading is softer than the BF. Soft tires aren't the answer, i ran the comp mickey's and the seem to roll over themselves.

I'll agree here. I used to run BFG MT's and now I have MTR's.
The MTR's kick the BFG's a$$. I've run both tires in rocks, loose
dirt and gravel, and sand. The MTR's win hands down.

Thanks for clearing that up Tracy. I checked them out on your rig and Shaffer's at Donner, and they didn't feel very soft at all.

I too ran BFG's, and now run MTR's, but to be honest, my BFG's went everywhere my MTR's go. That being said, I still havent decided between 36" TSL's and 37" MTR's. Im leaning toward the MTR's, just because the jeeps a daily driver. Maybe I need to try harder trails? :D

If you read the threads about the RCAA tire rules there are a few people who think that special compound tires are evil, mostly it seems because they can't get their hands on a set.
