: Divorced T-case on 92' Rodeo?

Has anybody run a divorced t-case behind the stock t-case on a rodeo? I have been looking at doubler options for my 92' but I also have been looking at the possibility of running a divorced case instead of trying to build a doubler. Any ideas? Any input will be appreciated.

I know of 3 people who have done this, myself included.
We all used an isuzu t-case from and automatic. The auto case female input mates perfectly to the male output shaft which makes it fairly easy to put them together.
The hard part is that you have to cut off the front output of your stock case to make room for the front driveshaft. Not that big of a deal if you can weld aluminum. I think I paid a local welder $100 to do the actual welding on the aluminum case.
Your on your own as far as mounting, and everyone has their own idea on how to do it.
Mine worked perfectly for me, never broke and made crawling much better.
It also gives the much needed length for the front driveshaft on SAS isuzus.

There is also a toyota based swap, but it involves swapping tranny and t-case.

Cool,I appreciate the input. Do you have any pics of your setup? Also my rodeo is a 92' model, what model auto t-cases are compatible for a doubler setup?

As long as you have a mua5 tranny it should work.
The auto t-cases come from the '92-'97 trooper/rodeo's. You want one that shifts manually. It is still a custom swap, and is a lot of work, but it does work and allows you to keep it all isuzu.

If you can find an 85-85 4WD 5 speed tranny still in working condition the front output is a bolt on. They were also used on the Turbo Diesel models.

I have one in my shop I'll take some pictures of tomorrow and post up for you.
And I have an auto divorced T case out there I'll get some shots of too.

Yes, the early 5 speed did have the bolt on front output. However the tranny has the 4cyl bolt pattern, and a 1.87 low range. The clutch is smaller, it physically is smaller, and the rear output is different from the mua5.
My '87 came with this tranny and I discarded it for these reasons.

Do you know the front transmission housing on the MUA's are interchangeable which makes the clutch issue a moot point?

I have front transmission housings for V-6's ZU, GM and Toy, 4 cyl ZU gas and diesel housings that bolt onto my MUA's. I'M NOT TALKING BELL HOISING JUST SO YOU KNOW, I'M TALKING THE FRONT CASE HALF THAT HAS THE BELL HOUSING ON IT.
I can run an MUA5 behind almost any engine I want.

Pretty sure the early 85-86 fronts housings are the interchangeable as the later ones. Especially since I have a 86 2.2L diesel housing on a new 89 MUA5 tranny with a Tera Low 4:07's in it for my diesel Trooper build.
Oh, and it has the flanged tail housing on it too. Yea, I changed it out from an automatic! It's a nice transmission I have about $3500 in right now

As for the 1.87 low range on the 86 tranny, I'll do some checking tomorrow and see if it's upgradeable. Not sure about that, as I've never considered doing one. Although I do have two of those 86 trannys with the bolt on front output in the shop right now.

Also consider the fact that if youre sas'ing it you could run a drivers side drop axle with a divorced drivers side drop tcase eliminating the need to remove the passenger side output on the first tcase.

It wont be the prettiest thing in the world when you look under the truck but the function will be all the same.

You guys really should stop fighting and just meet in Moab again. I will see if I can find pics of mine. They are lost in the world of web shots.

Funny, I wouldn't dare fight with this Texan....I'm sure he has more guns strapped to the inside of his rodeo than I do! Besides, any one who drives from Utah to Texas on the front end gets props from me.

The Moab idea is a good one! Can I bring my ultra4 car?

Hey Chad! How are you guys doing?

Actually Moab is only a 1000 miles away from my Ranch here in North Texas!
I'm surprised anyone remembered that little bit of Trivia.

To be honest there is another story about that truck that gave me the confidence that I could make a trip home from Moab on just the front axle.

The year before I drove to Sacramento to Randii's in that same Rodeo with one of the FF rear axles pulled. A bad seal on the right axle meant either I go back home or pull the axle, plug it with a Dodge freeze plug and lock up the ARB. I had a trip planned to Marlins Roundup at the Rubicon and just had to make it. It was about 1500 miles one way. All on one wheel drive. Course I could have put in the transfer case in gear and made it three wheel drive, but that wouldn't have made a good story would it?
Randii got me the seals I needed to fix the rear Dana, and I was able to get it replaced in front of his house before the HOA came after me. Then Randii, Corbin, Mike Woods and I went to Rubicon to play.

Oh, and about the guns in the overhead rack.

Well Yea!
[Forest Gump Voice] Texans and Guns, it's a natural thing. [Forest Gump Voice/] :D

I remember the front wheel drive story, but this is the first I heard of the one wheel drive.

I am always recommending isuzu as a reliable make.

So is there a 2wd 5speed I can use behind my 81 diesel besides a 2wd diesel trans. Im gonna run dual toy tcase. My friend has one but he does not want to sell the trans. I want to know if there is an easy to find trans, other than a diesel trans. Otherwise I guess I will have to cut the front output off my zu case and run dual toys behind that. Tripled tcase FTW! Lol.

I had a '81 luv with the na diesel and i think the starter was on the other side from the gas motors. It has been a very long time ago. The 2.3, 2.6 motors have the starter on the passengers side.
