: vss to trans wire?

I was wondering the other day, if it was possible to find out how the auto trans in a 1995 Disco "locks up" when in overdrive. I know mine "locks up" around 50MPH; but, does it happen because a wire comes from the vehicle speed sensor(vss) or speed sensor via computer? If it comes directly from the vss I would think you could put a toggle switch, to shut off the "lock up" torque converter. This would help when pulling trailer. I know the vss also goes to some sort of engine managment computer(if you can call it that). Thanks Tim

a 95 auto is completly hydralic. It does not interface with any computers what so ever. the torque converter locks up at a specific RPM, depending on the engine etc, and the tranny down shifts etc, via a cable hooked to the throttle linkages. You can adjust this cable (detent cable) and get better shifting off the line, but it wont help in towing to much, but maybe a little.

what are you trying to say KC? That the NSO shift kit that you installed on my truck so that it shifts at 4500 rpms wasn't worth the 6000 dollars that i paid for it???:flipoff2: :flipoff2: Yeah that tranny is hydro just use third gear if you are towing up a grade or get a real tow rig:flipoff2: :flipoff2: I wouldn't worry about it too much my tranny was still cool enough to touch after towing my trailer 1500 miles (about 3000 lbs) through hills and dales and leaving it in 4th. Granted my truck is a little lighter than your's but the tranny is pretty tough as long as you take care of it.

KC I find this hard to believe, it locks up @ 50MPH now matter what the RPM's. On flat groud @2200RPM's or going up a hill @2500RPM's. When you go from 49 to 50 it locks up. I have had large tire(33's) and stock, it allways locks up @ 50MPH.

Your speedo may say 50mph, but if you are changing tire diameter, you are changing the speedo output. Never trust a speedo, however you should always trust your rpm vs tire circumfrance and final drive.

Oh, and by the way boxer, you should be towing in 3rd if you have a heavy laod. Our 4.6 rangie has to be in 3rd most of the time when towing my 5475lbs mog and a 3000lb trailer. Otherwise it over heats the tranny. On long flats or down grades, we shift to 4th.
