I have an 88YJ, stock Dana 30, 35,,, This summer when I had work done on the 35 I had a Lockrite put in the rear,, I still have 3.07 gears, From what I understand if I want to change gear ratios, the lowest I can go is 3.73 without changing carriers, ( which I suppose would be the cheapest way to go ?? ) Is this correct, and would I still be able to keep my lockrite ??
3.73's would be sufficient for my style of offroading since it's still my daily driver..
Springs plan is to put a 4x4 posilock , and lockrite in the 30 ..
Thanks to anyone who cares to respond

Boy no one knows the split on a 35 carrier? Me neither. I'd try JU for a more speedy response.

I do not believe there is a carrier break for the Lockright in the D35. At least not according to my catalogs!

the lock wrong will work in any carrier.... when you go below a certain ratio, the carrier has to be changed due to the thickness of the new gears....

If memory serves the lowest gear you can go with is a 3.55. the 3.73 has a different carrier.

3.73 is a larger carrier. You would only be able to go to 3.55. Carriers are cheap at wrecking yards. Why not gear it right and get better gas milage?

Even if you find used gears and a carrier, by the time you pay to get them installed, you've sunk another 300-400 bucks into a crappy axle.

Why not spend 500 - 600 and get a much better axle, AND disc brakes.

Sell our D35 and buy a Ford 8.8 from a V8 explorer 95 and up. get on www.therangerstation.com (http://www.therangerstation.com) and search for the vin codes to ID the ratio. they came with 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10 stock.

pull the carriers out of a 4 banger wrongler and it should have 4.10 gears. i had a buddy all set to do that but decided any money spent to upgrade the 30/35 is a waste of money.

What the hell, do you run 165/85r 13's on the fawker
If you are going to go to the trouble of a gear swap go at least 4.56's or 4.88's. Or another option would be is to get a 4.10 axle, plenty of guys are using those as boat anchors, and would be more than happy to get rid of 'em...
