A buddy and I were discussing our upcoming 4d trip and I mentioned that I intended to bring some firewood. Bud says he has been questioned specifically about firewood in the past by the border ag inspectors. I looked on the border ag FAQ page and it doesnt specifically prohibit transporting firewood into cali but says it must not be infested. Should I spray the wood with a pesticide as a precautionary measure and try it or is it worth the bother?
Any insight?

We have been hasseled on 395 at Topaz headed to the hammers. Brought the wood from tahoe came through reno and then back into cali. They let us bring our wood through. The gal mentioned something about no native species of the area like bringing oak or some other wood. Ive also seen them confiscate wood on 395 North of Reno at the ag inspection and burn it in their burner.
I do have to ask, are you planning on packing wood in with you while wheeling fordyce or are you having a base camp somewhere like meadow lake?

Im leaving in the morning. Guess Ill either make it or wind up a Califonia clink for attempting to destroy the Tahoe Natl Forrest with my tainted NV wood..

Guess Ill update to close out the thread. The Ag officer asked if I had firewood, I responded "yes" then she asked where I was going. She then told me that since it was not going "over the hill" it did not need to be inspected. So no worries if your going to 4d or Rubicon.

I got my firewood and my veggies yanked at the Ag inspection station past South Lake Tahoe on my way to the Con a few years back. Not a big deal, but the $145 ticket for no CDL and towing a 14K trailer really pissed me off. I am not saying I'll never be back to Cali, but for a bankrupt, overpopulated state they sure don't make me want to spend my $ there anytime soon.

Bring a chain saw, there's plenty of downed stuff from last winter.

I had alot of seasoned cut/split wood in the back yard and plenty of room to pack it. Things worked out well I guess.

Doesn't matter. That's how the problem began.

What problem? If your talking about the importation of wood boring insects it must not be too much of an issue if they allow it at the check points designed to regulate these things.

Hey man, the Ash trees in NY are damn near GONE because of a little beetle. And there were a LOT of Ash trees.
I do not trust some hippie dude checking wood.
