: A new 45 wagon in AZ!!!

A couple of you may remember a few months back I was talking about the possibility of picking up a 45 wagon for cheap. Well my buddy actually ended up scoring it about a month ago. I finally got to see it last night! What a f'ing bad ass truck! I am soooo stoked and jealous at the same time. This truck is super friggin clean, a whole bunch of very light surface rust (patina) masking a virtually perfect body. It's got about 30 or so small holes drilled in the rain gutters from a PO's roof rack, 2 small dents in the roof above the drivers head, and a slightly reworked passenger rocker panel. He got it fired the other day and it runs like a champ. New plugs, wires, and a cap and rotor. With a little fuel down the carbie she fired right up. He needs tail light lenses, Decklid script (good luck with that one), and a carb rebuild kit. He sent some money off to some guy at "LANDCRUISERSTUFF.COM" for some front turnsignals and 40 mirrors that were never sent to him( Anybody know this guy?). Otherwise it's a pretty clean and complete truck. hopefully we'll have it on the trail soon.

I checked Landcruiserstuff.com under a "who is" at register.com and the site and domain name are available. Sure you got the address right?

You've got the address right (I had it bookmarked as "deadbeats"). It looks like they've moved on. Do a search on here and the CCOT board, and you should be able to turn up a real name and real address.

A litte unrelated but actually goes on the same themes.....

Remember that $5 FJ55 hood that someone posted a week or so ago. I went up to Odgen and was curious because his ebay identity was "66fj45wagon" --- Hmmm....

Real nice guy, turned out to be a state trooper who was hunting in Montana and spotted thw wagon in a farmer's field. Very low milage, had been converted to a Chevy 258 I-6 with the original 2 speed. Was sitting neck deep in brush, interior trashed but body almost perfect with only rurface rust. So he got the guy's number and called him up ready to fork down up to $2500 (apparently he'd been seeing 45 Wagons in much worse shape for as much as $6000 on Ebay). The farmer said "$300 and it's yours." So he shot up there and the very next day had it home for $300.

When I met him the truck was in his garage and he'd managed to grind most of the rust off (very mild ***surface rust only***). The body is literally almost immaculate. Naturally fading OEM paint, someone just scraped it. He expected the engine to not be running and claims he sort of wants it to die so he can throw in a 350. But it's actually running great he claims.

Right now he's doing a SOA / SR in his garage. Using a mini-truck front end, springs slightly widened, and OEM rear. Eventually he wants to run a centered rear axle so he says when the engine goes he'll swap everything over to Chevy. He also wants to get rid of the two tone paint and put on a nice metallic paint job :barf: But he knows what he's got, he claims he is going to do some mild wheeling and that's it, nothing to damage the body.

But was a real nice guy. Apparently he goes to fj45.com and is somewhat of a internet lurker and has seen all of your trucks (fj45 guys). He said he was very interested in meeting up with you guys for the 45 run next year and I think I talked him into coming down to Cruise Moab as well as possibly joining Wasatch Cruisers. Here are pictures of his rig fresh off the field. They do no justice whatsoever to the truck because it is literally almost immaculate with only lots of very grindable surface rust. Only holes and replacement he's done is fenders and later FJ40 hood.

Thanks for the pics, Andre! Can you get more? Maybe some of the interior? That thing looks like a niced project. Whats the story with the rear bumper?

Rear bumper looks remarkably similar to those dealer-installed diamond plate dealies that were common on late 1960's FJ45 LWB pickups. I've seen a half dozen or so with the same bumper, mounted to the body with Toyota hardware, and Gary Bjork told me that he'd researched them and discovered they were once a dealer-installed option. I've seen a couple on FJ45 SWB's of the same vintage as well...maybe this was also a dealer-option for the wagons?

Remember that during the 1960's Toyota had a BITCH of a time selling the FJ45's; they were underpowered when compared to its Detroit counterparts, expensive, and Toyota was still fighting an uphill battle vs. the WWII generation's bias towards Japanese goods.

It's not on there any more... So if anyone wants it I'll shoot the guy an email and see what he says. I'll also forward the link to his thread and maybe he can show us some picts. Something real cool I thought about the SO on the wagon is it really gets the body parts up and out of the way, unlike a 55 or a 60. With only 33s but SOA relatively (taken very lightly) low to the ground not a whole lot of body to get in the way. I told him some sorry tales of clean bodies (including some 45 wagons from tales from here) that have ended up with damage (hehemmm) and the sadness they bring. So I think I also convinced him to armor up the rockers and rear quarter with *removable sliders and he was certainly very keen to the idea. Apparently he's got a good welder buddy so we'll see what he come up with. I'll try to keep us posted if I'm updated myself....

Interesting! I have only seen one other like that and I just assumed it was some aftermarket bolt on. Now i will keep my eyes out for more. If anyone else has any insight to this pipe up!

DCHead... thanks for forwarding him this thread, i sure hope he posts more picts. I never tire of learning about the 45 wags. Especially from current owners. :D

Yeah Kurt,
I did the search and turned my buddy onto the CCOT BB. Hopefully he'll get his money back! What a dick that guy is. I finally got in touch with my buddy last night. He said that he'd get some pics this weekend and send them to me. I won't be able to post em up but I'm sure someone here would host em. I'll post up when I finally get them.

PICS (http://www.imagestation.com/album/?id=4290970483)(Imagestation/ sorry:p) of Mike's 45 wagon. Not the best pics but you get the idea. And a follow up to the LANDCRUISERSTUFF.COM saga. After back tracking through his bank statements my buddy realized that even though his check had been recieved (or so he was told) the guy never cashed it. Mike immediately put a stop payment on it and was only out $25 instead of a whole bunch more. Therefore he's still looking for a set of turnsignals and mirrors for a 67. He also said that he'd be happy with 40 parts (is there a differance?) until he can find and/or afford the correct ones.
