Is everyone going to be running a 4.3 motor next year or what?

I'll go ahead and confess about this 4.3 deal. Did you guys think a drag racing redneck would really run a "stock" engine to compete??? The obvious answewr is NOOOO

Shupee motor specs: Calies crank 3.750 stroke. Oliver rods, extensive bowl porting and port matching, J&E pistons (6" rod motor) .060 bore w/ torque plates Comp. Cams. Hydraulic roller w/206@ .050 for smooth idle.

THE ACTUAL DISPLACEMENT 309 CI dynoed @ 317 hp@5800 w/ 72lbs fuel pressure.

E-mail me and I'll send the part #s to you guys a very, very strong combo w/ smooth idle

Just wondering what the whole powerband is? 317hp isn't real impressive for a rockcrawling powerplant since we won't be revving that high usually. :D

Got the torque ratings also?

Com'n Shupee! That engine was probably bought off a drunk redneck who wanted a six pack and a rollbar for the back of his rusted out flatbed and you installed it the next day.

But if not, bring it on!

By the way, give me my rig back so I can get on to top secret building to keep it on the East Coast. EROCC rules!

I have a 4.3 similiar to yours
It is balanced w/ polished heads and alot of poerting on the intake. 60 over w/ flat tops
Isky roller cam 209@ .465.
Crane valve springs and roller rockers
Heads cced and other goodies.

The motor should be a 300+ motor as well.

How are you going to feed it. TPI or TBI? If you go TBI are you doing a 350 tbody, 454, or the 670 cfm holley?

I called novak and AA. neither make an adapter to mate this to my tranny. also, AA said they wouldnt warranty my Atlas behind this motor. personally, i think you might have cooling issues running this in a rock crawler, but hey, what do i know? it wouldnt surprise me in the least to see it in 4wheeler in some kind of mud truck.

Got any numbers on the heads? Stock 4.3 heads are grim, even worked a bit.

Check out some of the old ASA 4.3's :D Those put out a few hp:D

My only question is why spend those kind of $$ when a lighter crate LS1 is around $5000 plug and play. I'm sure the dyno sheet looks alot beter also. I think it is bad ass that you can get those # from the smaller motor but again why. Unless custom rods, pistons, and offset cranks have sudenly gotten cheap.

I say in this case, as with any buggy, the main reason is the smaller package.

I thought everyone was going to the 4.3 because they didn't have too much power? Or was it because they are just lighter and shorter?

Shupee
12-10-2002, 07:21 PM
OK,
I won't answer all the questions but will answer some of the irrelevant ones. I don't want a little suzuki buddy of mine to find out everthing. HAHA!!!!

For the computer programming The only place to go is FAST CHIPS out of Tulsa OK. very knowledgeable I don't have the
# at home but they are in the book(411)
Yes, I'll dig the dyno sheet up when I get time this week.
72lbs fuel pressure??? A vortec won't crank unless you have 45lbs and they're like any modern muscle car- More fuel more HP if you can get it back out of the engine.
I don't want to devulge any more speed secrets right now.. To many comps. read this stuff but I will say that weight was not the only reasoning behind the choice!!!

BWAHAHA.. DUDE WERE SO SCREWED.. hmm.. lets see.. i'll be spotting for a full bodied cj with a 400 fuelied small block. you guys are sooooo much cooler than us. i cant wait to just roll a couple times so the crowd likes it. and of course my one and only goal is to spot my driver so he rolls sideways down a ledge and threw a bonus gate and then i can take credit for it. (bigdude) :D

Who gives a fawk about your HP specs, let's hear about some torque specs-ya' know the stuff that gets ya' movin'?
I'm in a 4.3 now, but just left a 450 hp BB Chrysler 440. I WILL NOT miss it! Too much friggin' heat! And that was in a rig WITH a firewall. I went smaller for every reason I hated the BB. I found an old(but fresh) set of Daytona AL heads for my 4.3 that will take me up to about 375 hp. There's a few other little things I need to do, but it should be plenty?

Speakin' of those little things: Whos headers are you all running on the little V6s?

You get 375 hp, NA out of that 4.3 and I will kiss your hairy white ass. :flipoff2: I'm shooting for 400 and that is banging 17 pounds of boost and shooting alky. Your welcome to join me at EJ's dyno. Bring $100. :p

You're on, biatch! Make it $105, I'm feelin' lucky!

Actually, I'm not too sure about it. I got off the phone with him after work and he said that he was pulling those numbers with a 2BB carb.... A 900cfm 2 bb carb. I do not want to take my TB that far from stock as it is 'al cheapo to fix/replace/repair right now. I just want them cuz, well, cuz they're there!

Yep! With aluminum heads it saves 130#'s total over an Iron head/block 4.3. The one I found for Camo sold for $4500.

GM Performance PN 14011069
A356-T6 Aluminum
Cylinders- Siamesed
Deck height- 9.025
Bore- 4.000
Bearing caps- 4 bolt Splayed
Crankshaft Journal dia.- 2.45"
Oil sump- WET
Crankshaft seal- 2 piece
Max. stroke- 4.00"
Weight- 75#'s

These guys do some great work with the turbo 4.3's.

http://www.tobefast.com/headpricing.htm

Their stage II heads are suppose to flow in the 270's with 2.02 intake valves and 1.6 exh valves.

I don't know if the turbo heads are the same as NA heads. But they do porting work on anything. :D
