Rocktoyo 12-10-2002, 06:06 AM I'm looking around for east coast crawler comp. orginasations. (nope, cant spell, deal with it:flipoff2: ) I'm thinking of revamping the rig and figure I may as well make it legal for competition while I'm at it.

broncorob 12-10-2002, 07:52 AM Sorry to jack the thread, but is EROCC hooked up with BFG contingency thru UROC. Specifically on the tire deal. Thanks
ROb
rkcrawl 12-10-2002, 08:22 AM Details on any BFG contingency in ERoCC aren't complete, at least that was the latest posted on the ERoCC forums.
broncorob 12-10-2002, 08:32 AM Thanks Jim, I'll keep an eye out over there
Hoyden 12-10-2002, 12:40 PM Neuroc had BFG sponsorship last year - their website http://neuroc.com/ has not been updated yet, but they have released the 2003 dates -
May 17 & 18
June 14 & 15
September 6 & 7
You can see pics from last years event in the new issue of 4Wheel Drive and Sport Utility.

Joe -
Goto www.erocc.com and look at the class rules. Legends specs will be there, basically it is 36" and smaller, measured, stock or stock type ladder frame, etc. etc.
The legends class in 02 was small, I think 10 or 11 entries was the largest field. Most of the field got along very well and encouraged, supported, and helped out whenever one could. It was a lot of fun (even though I broke in both events I entered!).
I expect we'll see more entries in the ERoCC Legends in '03. As the schedule stands now, I'll probably only be able to make 2 of the events.

EROCC ROCKS
I spotted last year , and from the looks of it I will be spotting again . We just got started on the new chassis to replace the tipsy ,banged up ,overweight , topheavy GREEN TOYOTA , hopefully this one we can keep rubber side down.:D
Is NEUROCK gonna be at paragon for all three events ?
Rocktoyo 12-11-2002, 05:58 AM looks like my junk will be at jellico at least once. someone tote several spared r/h chunk FSJ 44 axles ok?
Now, stupid question. If I redo the front using extended links from a XJ, 8" over XJ springs and a hydro assist off a 68 ford firetruck will this drop me in modified?
Guess I need to weld some form of a lid on it too.
Joe
jeepinchad 12-11-2002, 06:25 AM Rocktoyo,
We'd love to have you, and anyone else you want to bring along, in Jellico. We are working on many of the little details that make ERoCC a great event. Yes, we are working on contingency dollars from BFG, along with contingency dollars from other manufacturers. We hope to have many of these deals secured in the first quarter of next year.
We have gone multi-venue this year, with an event being held at The Badlands Offroad Park in Attica, Indiana. Troy Myers has an awesome facility, which should create some awesome four wheeling.
If there are any questions you have, feel free to drop me a line at chad@erocc.com or stop by our website (http://www.erocc.com/).
Thanks.

Unofficially, I am going to say no, these changes would not put you in the UNLIMITED group... you'd still be able to run LEGENDS. I know... I said "unofficially".
Contact Jerry Blair (jerry@erocc.com), the Lead Official for ERoCC (http://www.erocc.com/) for further information and clarification of rules questions.
Thanks.

Archie_G 12-11-2002, 07:05 AM Any chance of Erocc (or someone else) hosting a competition in the North East, like NY?
I know of a great place to hold an event in the Catskills of NY (within 4hrs of Boston and Philly) but don't know squat to start any discussion. Any idea who I could talk to about this?

It is something that ERoCC would be interested in. Some questions about the area:
1. Is there a lot of rock and little or no dirt/mud?
2. Is it privately owned?
3. Are there a lot of trees, and if so, can some of them be removed?
4. Can obstacles be built close to one another?
5. Can a 5-10 acre parking lot be clear/leveled next to the obstacle area?
6. Is there a nearby town with meeting facilities, hotels, restaurants, etc?

1. Is there a lot of rock and little or no dirt/mud? - Yes
2. Is it privately owned? = Yes
3. Are there a lot of trees, and if so, can some of them be removed? Not a lot of trees
4. Can obstacles be built close to one another? - I assume so, but I have zero experence in rock crawling comps.
5. Can a 5-10 acre parking lot be clear/leveled next to the obstacle area? fairly close
6. Is there a nearby town with meeting facilities, hotels, restaurants, etc? Yes
Here is the place I'm thinking of: http://www.huntermtn.com/ It is a ski hill that when it was built, the runs were blasted into the mountain much like road construction. It is full of very steep blasted rock and cliffs. They also hold many events during the summer. Spectator access would not be a problem as the ski lift runs year round.
What I don't know is if the owners would be interested in something like this (need someone that knows what they are talking about to make the first contact), what the libalities would be, or if its financially feasable. I do know of at least 10-20 people in the Boston area that would make that drive to compete.
Thanks!

These modifications are perfectly legal in the legends class.
TrailKeeper 12-11-2002, 07:57 AM Archie-
Ski resorts are a great place for comps because they are usually looking for something to use their facility for during the off season, and they usually have lodging and food either on site or nearby, so that is a great start.
There are two major issues with ski resorts, though. One problem is some ski resorts completely shut down in the summer, but is sounds like from your post that they are partially open in the summer. The other problem is that the only obstacles available may be on the side of a mountain, so if a roll occurs, the vehicle would roll all the way down the mountain - that is way too dangerous.
I checked their website and they already of a base in place, so scouting for a place to put obstacles really couldn't occur until the snow melts off.
We would be glad to be involved with this - are you interested in being involved with this, or are you just trying to get a comp in your area so that you can compete?
jware 12-11-2002, 08:11 AM it would definately be nice to see some comps up here in the north east

I am over 4.5 hours away from Hunter, but my parents live close by (my Dad actually teaches Skiing there in the winter). With that said, I would like to help out in any way I can. I have never been involved in rock crawling comp's (I'm a mud guy), but I would really like to see a comp in my area.
I'm also checking with my Dad to see if he has any pictures of the hill in the summer.
Feel free to send me an email at archie@cj7.com letting me know how I can help! :D

I have a near perfect place for you fellas, and me as it's 20 mins. from my house...
Mt. Whittier in Ossipee, NH goes by Mount Madness http://www.mountmadness.com/ . They are already cutting trails and running the Mt. but are having some zoning issues that will hopefully be worked out soon.

It wouldn't make sense trying to do something that close to Paragon, might as well use Paragon.
Rocktoyo 12-12-2002, 06:13 AM Cool on the mods, I just need more turning radius and being the cheapskate I am, tend to use whats laying around. :D
One other question, dual cases? legends legal? (I know, but the rules are a bit vague, reason I'm concerned we built a BMW based dirt car only to get outlawed everywhere due to IRS and rear disc)
I am still debating about going long leaf front and rear but, haven't decided as of yet.
I apreciate all the info guys. :D
Keep it coming.
Joe
The two competitions are NEUROC and EROCC. EROCC does put on a good competition. They put on four last year. NEUROC just put on one, but this year will have three and all will be at Paragon. NEUROC, EROCC and UROC have pulled together and are going to use very similar rules. The NEUROC website is being updated now for 2003, but feel free to check it out, www.neuroc.com.
Archie_G 12-12-2002, 06:46 AM Here is the best picture of Hunter I could find that shows some of the rocks available. Most of the ski runs on the top half of the mountain were blasted into the rock, so there is plenty of loose bolders. Hope you can make them out in the picutre.

Hey Joe, No problem with questions. Our rules do not address dual transfer cases as they are legal for use in both classes. Feel free to contact me anytime, here or on our ERoCC forum http://forum.jrocc.com/
Hope to see you there.
Big Rich 12-12-2002, 07:49 AM Just thought I'd chime in here, having done an event at a Ski Resort and all.
2 things to consider at least here on the west coast at least.
1. Ski resorts make there money now by being able to open with as little snow as possible, that normally means that they have groomed the hell out of the hills, removed nearly all the rock, we found at Donner, all the rock was in their out of bounds (unskiable) areas or it was so massive that they could not remove it.
2. most of the ski areas are leased from the forrest service, which means a red flag for our activities.
I hope these will not be a problem for you guys out east, but they are here.
Rich

yeah true,, i was just using it as an example,,the land at jack frost that was used was not near the ski area,, they own thousands of acres near the ski area,, but i suppose its a mute point anyways...
CJDave 12-14-2002, 01:45 PM Neuroc,
I was there last year, and for my first comp I had a great time. It definetley got me hooked on the sport. I will be there for every event this year... Can't wait!!
