I am going with a '96 Caprice/Impala SS LT1, '92 700R4, Ford NP205 (custom AA adapter) in my '93 YJ. I am aware of the opti-spark vs. moisture problems. I have HEARD that the later LT1's (such as the '96) do not have the same problems with moisture invading the opti as easily as the early models and I could get away with it off-road. I was going to do the drop down HEI distributor, but after hearing this, I might stay with opti.
What is everyone's opinions on this?
Do the '96's still suffer?

Thanks in advance,
Eric

I have a 95 LT1 and in my studies 95 and up had a sealed unit with a vacumn hook up that kept a positive vacumn on the unit keeping moisture from condensing inside. I think.

Yeah, I talked with Frankie about it up as his shop today. He thinks I should be OK, but I wanted to see if anyone with an actual '96 has had any problems before I decide.

By the way, your chassis looks good. Damn good work on it.

I've got a '96 in mine and the unit does have a positive vacuum to it. I've still had a little trouble with washing the engine but its fine. I had heard that once the water pumps leak, theres trouble. I routed a copper pipe out of the rupture hole and down around the optispark to prevent future trouble.

Just my .02 worth.
