paid $50 for one a couple months ago...but had to have it shipped (couldn't find a good one locally) so that bumped up the price a bit.

it really just depends on your locallity and your wallet..........look around before you buy.

$50.'s a good price but it wouldn't hurt to pull the top and look at it.

Make sure you try to get the bellhousing, clutch fork, shields, flywheel, etc.

sm420 trans. last year mfg. 1967 - if you intend to rebuild it before you install it you might want to do some research on parts avaliabilty small parts kits are probably still avaliable - i'm not sure input shafts, gears, syncro- hub assemblies are still avaliable. i like 7.05 : 1 first gear 3 of my 4.w.d. vehicles have them. remove shifter and cover on trans inspect inside of trans. before you buy.1st gear sycronizer on many of them shot- remove bearing retainer to input shaft rotate untill flat clears cluster gear remove place trans. verticle on wood blocks needle bearings will not end up inside case in bottom! inspect inside input shaft where needle bearings and end of mainshaft mate.make sure surfaces are o.k.- the three that i rebuilt were not- had to spend $$$$ to build them. last one i built early 90's note- 1st gear has 2 drive lugs that engage into 2ed gear these are retained inside 1st gear with a large snap ring. if there is a lot of end play between drive lug assembly and snap ring that retains it inside 1st gear the tapered mating surfaces are worn- out- more $$$$. hope this helps you- someone on the board may know where to purchase parts for them if avaliable- -- 1st gear not syncronized but 2ed gear syncronizer is part of 1st gear.....
