As for thoughts on the original contraption:
I really think all the negativity is/was deserved. There is no evidence of forethought or understanding of how to build a proper structure. He has tried to overbuild it but doing it in the way he has, the structure is not actually that stout, it's just ridiculously heavy. And the weight is completely unnecessary.
For example the door - instead of 2x8's or whatever dimensional lumber he used, he could have just used a sheet of plywood and it would have been 1/10th the weight, and endlessly better at keeping out the wind, water and snow etc.

I can appreciate the attempt to construct such a project on a budget, and I can really appreciate the attitude "just get out there" but the execution of this camper is so terrible and is likely a hazard both driving down the road to other people as well as the people sleeping inside it with that death trap of a fireplace.
