Will a T18A (if I can find one) mate to my Dana 20 without a adapter?

well the t18 did come stock in cj and in FSJ so you just need to get one out of those.
One thing about the FSJ is the one that come behind a v8 have a 13in input shaft and the ones behind a i6 have a 9in input shaft. Now the cj one have a 6in input shaft and that is great for cj.
I use the t18 from a FSJ that has a i6 and it work good for me as well but I have a cj7

In a word- yes. Will you find one- depends on what engine your putting it behind (even so, they are not that common). As mentioned above, the input shaft length will be your biggest concern. When I did my swap, I researched everything for about 6 months before I even starting looking for a tranny to begin the project. This time researching brought me to the conclusion that finding a T-18A was near impossible, and it also allowed me to save for the adapter kit from Novak. There is a ton of info on what will bolt up where and to what- not only on this board, but also on the www.

If you really need a T-18A out of a cj I have one I will part with for the right price. It's in good working order. It's in my jeep right now. I'm thinking of going auto.

I found a T18 this week mated to a dana 20 for 450.00 It is going straight to a trans shop for a check or rebuild. Adapter from Advance is high 444.00. But I will have 6.32 to 1 first. How did i do?

You got a T18A & a D20 for $450. That ain't bad. You don't need an adapter.

The adapter is from the T18 to the new 350. (bellhousing)

what about the ford t18a's? will they mate to a jeep dana 20? jeep d20 is 6 spline input, and aren't most ford t18s 10 spline output?

ford also uses a 1 1/16" input shaft vs the jeep 1 1/8" shaft if i'm not mistaken.

i'm thinkin about doing the t18a swap too ;) so can someone verify my info or correct me on this?

1) They will mate, after you change the trans output shaft and drill/tap a hole or two on the case. Basically you will need the adapter kit from Novak.

2)Use a Ford disc.

I went form a T150 Blah, to a T18 out of a FSJ long input ..

and it's in a Cj5 so it can be done ... :D

I did however move the rear back 2" at that time couldn't move
the rear back anymore due to the bulldozer blade of a gas tank I had, which is gone now and I'm running a fuel cell in the bed.
so now there is all kinds of room to move the rear back and lengthen the rear driveshaft at this point in time its only 11 3/4" long

James,
I have a stock jeep t18 mod 20 out of a cj. 20's do not bolt up to any t18's without an adapter even the stock ones they are about 1" thick. as for finding one the full size older jeeps had them behind the 6 cylinder, the v8's had a spacer around 5 inches long between the bell housing and the transmission and had a long imput shaft like the 76 wagoneer I had.

If you find one they will most likley be expensive and be sure to get the bell housing as well.
They do work great and It was like night and daywhen i swapped out the 3speed. I am building a new jeep however the old one I ran 33 inch tires and 3.73 gears and it was a good comprimise it was good on road and would crawl pretty good as well.

happy hunting
