Whats the deal with foam in a fuel cell?Does it take up any of the fuel capacity? If not how does it work and should I put it in my cell?

The foam is used to control fuel slosh, but will break down over time. I better way to do it is to use PVC pipe about 2" in diameter, cut the pipe about 2" shorter then the tank is deep, cut a whole bunch of them, make sure your deburr them real good.. Then stand them up inside the cell, yes stand them up and put enough in there to fill the entire tank so they cannot fall over. This will control your fuel slosh and will not break down like the foam tends to do after long periods of time...

What about loss of fuel capacity?I was thinking more in the lines of TIG welding sort of a maze inside the tank. Then in the bottom just drill some holes in it before I weld the sump on.I need all the fuel I can carry.

does it really matter if the fuel sloshes around some?

In a race car with a half a tank YES!!! on a rockcrawler who knows..

If your worried about the loss of capacity go to a 2.5" thin wall PVC, your going to very little capacity that way..

If you do run foam, try to keep your tank full when your not using it. I think a combination of O2 and fuel help accelerate the break-down (oxidation) of the foam. I've heard of "some with problems" and "others with no problems whatsoever". I'd bet dimes-to-donutz those w/o breakdown problems keep a full tank.

I think ill go with the baffles. If I dont do it now I wont be able to later. The wieght transfer thing and on severe drop off and climbs I think it might help keep fuel in the sump.
