: Johnson Valley clean up
Big Rich 12-11-2002, 10:12 PM Ok I'm going to redo this post since most don't know that Cougar Buttes is part of Johnson Valley.
If anyone will be in the Johnson Valley area on Sat., Dec. 28th, CalROCS will be sponsoring a little clean-up party and playtime.
I figure we meet at around 9am, and if we get 15-20 people would be done by noon.
Having BBQ and trying to put together a raffle for the workers.
If anyone is interested please contact me.
Looking for workers and raffle sponsors.
Rich
PS....this is the competition area for the PUT-UP, lots of major Rock formations. This will be the new hot spot after the event.
I can believe anyone will want to play in the masters area again.
Mustard Dog 12-12-2002, 06:48 AM Hey Rich, from what we found during the Bender clean up a couple months ago is that the area surrounding the lakebed needs the most attentition. The trails are very clean, I don't know about the comp area though.;)
Big Rich 12-12-2002, 07:34 AM I agree that the lake bed is always in need of attention. But the area I talking about no one, or at least no many, of the 4 wheelers know about this area, it's about 6-8 miles from Lucerne Valley and is used by M/C riders mostly. Part of the deal with BLM is to get it cleaned up before the PUT-UP, so it looks good in the Mags....... Well I believe it will become a popular place for the hardcore 4 wheel crowd once everyone sees it.
I'm hoping to get some the TIN BENDERS to join in the fun on both weekends.
Can you make it?
Rich
Mustard Dog 12-12-2002, 07:50 AM I can't make the 28th, but it's lookin like a few Benders will be out there the first weekend of Jan ;)
Mustard Dog 12-12-2002, 07:51 AM Is that area off Camp Rock Road?

I'll have to post the exact directions this weekend. I'll scan my map book and post.
I'm out of town right now and not near my scanner.
Ok I looked this up on mapquest, 247 to Camp Rock Rd, where Camp Rock turns right at a 45* angle, it crosses Granite rd., You want to turn right on Granite rd (dirt) follow to where powerline rd crosses it (about 1.25 miles turn right and follow dirt rd to the big rock formations that loom infront of you.
Rich
follow link to the map, I hope this works

If you look at the map north side rd comes in off of hwy 247 from Barstow.
Camp Rock comes up from hwy 18/247 from either Yucca Valley or from Victorville, follow either to the intersection of Camp Rock rd and Granite rd. (that's where Camp Rock takes a 45* turn) turn hard right onto Granite, go about 1.25 miles turn right again, head to the big rock formations, I'll have signs up by Friday night.
Rich
fishuntr 12-20-2002, 03:52 PM I'll be there as well Rich, probably staying in Desertoy's trailer.
Let me give everybody my take on directions..
Coming East through Lucerne from the 15, or South from Barstow, go East like toward the Hammers.
5 miles east of the 4way stop in Lucerne is Camprock Rd. Turn North towards Anderson Dry Lake. About 4 miles North on Camprock, a big poleline road crosses. Turn right..East; follow the poleline to the big rockpilel turn right to the area.
This is the extreme west side of the Johnson Valley Offroad Rec Area. It's a good 12 miles West of Means. If anybody has a problem, call me 760-248-7670
lizard lips 12-20-2002, 06:35 PM I wish I could go, I have no ride. It's still under construction
