I have been talking to some people about this....

I had a problem with fitting my new aluminum radiator into the grill and getting an electric fan on it.

I spent tonight getting it to fit now here is the next prb. I have very little room for a shroud.... Will putting a flat piece of Aluminum around the fan do me any good or do I have to make a box type deal on the radiator... I have cut as close to the hood latch as I can, I dont have a body lift and my radiator is as low as it can go without hitting the Power Steering Box....The person that installed the 350 before I bought it has the motor sitting a little farther forwared than I would have like that is where some of the problem is coming from.....

So will that work or do I need to cut MORE somehow and get a "box" on the back?

trial and error is my best friend. yes even a little shroud will help. just my opinion.
try with a small 1 see what happens.

I've learned (from many years in the Jeep forums) that sheet metal shrouds are common ... and effective.

bigjeepin, mine is just a flat sheet of aluminum with the holes for the fans cut in it with them bolted to it. it is held to the radiator with small angle pieces(dont use the plasic threw radiator thingies they will fawk it up)
But here is the valuable lesson i learned after over heating . you HAVE to space the fans away from the radiator to give good airflow my shoud is spaced away from mine with 3/4 in closed cell foam weather stripping (adhesive back real nice like $4 from home depot) around all 4 edges and then a few strips down the middle to space it off.
the foam keeps it from vibrating againt the radiator.seals it nice and the whole thing including fans is maybe 4in thick. I use 2 fans from Mazda 626's (10in??) so i have the space in the middle for clearance.
todal price maybe $50

On my 4.3 vortec swap, I also swapped out the top of the frame toyota steering box for a side of the frame saginaw box. THis allowed me to use the stock radiator, shroud, and engine driven fan from the 98 Olds Bravada. RAdiator hoses also. Of course with a 350 it will be a tighter fit, but swapping steering boxes, would allow the radiator to be lower. Might help with fitment...
