Is the width on these things really only 8.25" wide?
Do people run 14.50 wide tires on these things with no problems?
Are they all the same? (ex. did they come in different widths?)
Did they only come in the 16.5" version?

In short YES to all. Alot of people mod these wheels to the application they are putting them on I.E. recenter, whatever. There are 2 diffrent types of military types 8 bolt and 12 bolt.

I run 39.5x15x15 TSL's on regular 8" wheels. No big deal.

Don't know if the hummer beadlocks are really 8.25" wide, but I do run 38.5x14.50's on 15x8 steel wheels. They work great. Great for narrowing you up a bit when using full width axles.

I have a set of 35x15's TSL's sitting on hummer rims in my garage right now. Its all good in the hood, just get a taller tire than a 35 (im in the process of that myself!)

There are a lot of choices for "Hummer" rims, but the most common are the 8 bolt 16.5" two piece bias rims that were used by the military, and the 12 bolt 16.5" radial two piece that were used by Civilian Hummers, and later on HMMWV's when they switched to the MT's.
The 16.5" 12 bolt Two piece Radial wheel was used on Hummers from 92-97 and from 2000-2002 as the stock wheel. They came with either beadlocks (rubber) or integrated beadlock/runflat (there were two types of this as well, two piece and one piece - the only difference being the thickness of the runflat ring)
Hummers in 98 and 99 came with a One piece wheel. It had two options, 1 piece beadlock (which, unlike the two piece beadlock, only locks the outer bead), and one piece beadlock with runflat ring.
Military HMMWV's which used the Bias RTII tires, used a two piece 8 bolt bias wheel with magnesium beadlock/runflat. These are common surplus.
In 2000, AM General began offering new 17" wheel combinations for the Hummer, and information on these is available on the AM General website. They are very nice wheels, but are not generally available as take offs or used. They are expensive.
I'm still waiting for someone to show up with a comp buggy on the new beadlocked 17" Hutchinson 2 piece wheel that is available for the 2002 Hummers. It's a very trick wheel.
Specs are 16.5" x 8.25" with 7.5" backspace. I have more pics and info on www.gohumvee.com under tech.

All that I have ever sold are 8.25 wide and we rednecks currently have a set of cut BOGGERS 44x19.5 on a set w/ no problems.
Several years ago Chris Durham and I were hauling them out of the bases in the southeastern US in groves, HE asked me, what the hell are you going to do with all these things ???? I told him that I can sell the tires and scrap the rest. Well the days of $5.00to $8.00 per tire &wheel combo is certainly long gone but the prices are now so high to buy them ($175) that they are no longer a viable option when you can buy good quality steel beadlocks for less money and you never knock the inside off
