View Full Version : Carrying crap in the bed??

Hey, just scanning through the pics since i haven't been around for a while in here.
And i use the usual ammo boxes to carry my trail equip. and was wondering if anyone has a good system of securing the boxes in the bed?
The best thing i have done in the past was use a cargo bar to push everything forward against the tailgate, and bungy everything down, but the stuff still moved around more than i liked....
So, has anyone made any custom boxes, or bolted an ammo box right to the bed? Ideas?????

i was thinkin the same thing. i think it'd work great just bolting them to the bed, just use some big flat washers and locking nuts.

What i would REALLY like to have, is a setup that would have some sort of quick-release feature that would let me pull the cans right out of the bed, and move 'em around.
I've got 3 ammo cans right now, 2 smallish ones, and one that is a little larger. They've been in my garage for a while, and i haven't looked at them lately, so i can't remember the dimensions...
I would love to be able to make some sort of harness that would lock them down into the bed. Hmmm.....

But get the removable type, where the eye threads into a threaded insert that stays permanently mounted, but if in between the bed "bumps" does not interfere with anything when the eye is removed..
A friend of mine picked up a pair at his local ACE for $6-7 a peice. I need to find some for my truck, they work great

Why not use the PAVEMEN idea to hold a plate across the bed. Then weld rod in an upright position. On the bottom of your amo cans weld a plate with holes drilled to slip over the pins and use a hitch pin to secure. Or use threded rod and a nut. Us JEEPERS have ideas to.;)

Not to hijack the thread, but to solve this very problem, I built a bed rack to hold:
- Full size spare tire
- Hi-Lif jack
- 2 five gallon Jerry cans
- 2 large coolers
I've got pictures, how do I post them?
Thanks,
Albin

Albin, to post pics you need to buy yourself a red star.
Or, you can email them to someone with a red star that will post them for you.
And for God's sakes, make that sig-line a little smaller.
hehee
And Paveman, thanks for the link, and pics. I likey. :D
And that's a cool idea too Ray, especially for a Jeep guy. :flipoff2:
(Oh, i just remembered, i own a Jeep now... damnit.....)

Adam, sorry about the long sig line, I forgot I had one since its been +2 months since I was here last. Now that you mention, it is a bit long isn't it?
When I get to work tomorrow, I'll e-mail someone the pictures and ask them to post.
Thanks,
