getting ready to convert my 90 yj rear to coil spring. Who has done this? Any pics? Did you move the rear axle back any? I was planing on moving it back about 5 inches. Right now i got spring over with 2 inch bds springs. Thinking about using rubicon express 5.5 coil spring from a tj. What coils are you guys running? Plan is to make a triangulated 4 link. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Yup, I did this last winter. I moved my rear axle back ten inches. I used stock XJ front springs, but I would like to find some three to four inch lift springs and maybe cut them down a bit, so they are a little stiffer. I used a triangulated four link, the lowers are triangulated and meet underneath the t-case output shaft, the uppers go from the inside of the frame to either side of the pumpkin on the axle. All my control arms are 45 inches.

any pics of your setup? What did you do for a rear gas tank? I would not mind putting a fuel cell in the back but i dont want to smell gas all the time. are your coils inside out outside of the frame? The way i plan it is to make a braket off the crossmember right behind the axle.

I put the coils just inside the framerails. Works great, more flex than I want, but not much resistance to body roll. That's why I want the stiffer springs. Mounting my shocks vertically instead of at an angle helped out, but I really need stiffer spgings or a sway bar. I mounted the shocks through the floor to a crossmember behind where the back seat was. Using the stock crossmember that holds tha gas tank is going to be tough, it's a pretty weak crossmember, basically sheetmetal, and it's kinda funky shaped, so it makes it tough to mount anything to. I removed that crossmember and welded on a better one using box steel. I will eventually make a tank to go above my driveshaft and control arms, in front of the axle. There is room there, but it is going to be a tight fit. For now I am using the stock gas tank, where the back seat used to be. I don't really have any good pics of the geometry, but I do have this...

I'll see if I have anything that shows geometry better.
I would be intrested in see how your mounts look up by the Xcase. I am thinking about going to coilovers on my swap. I just am tired of doing it twice. I am sure you guys understand what I am talking about in that twice sence. How did you determine to make your arms 45"s long. I am still worried about getting all that right. Evertime I read a few posts a few say the exact oppsite. I also want to be able to drive it on the road every now and then so I want it somewhat stable.
