Well some mods after you build your bumper and re-wind the motor for a HUGE 5hp  you could always try and make it more reliable and stronger.

I welded a bolt to the brake shaft and bolted a plate on this to put pressure on the c-clip, or otherwise you will be winching out of something badass, worst possible situation, and the c-clip will let go, launching the brakes off the side of it, and there will be ball bearings and brake parts everywhere

and you wont be winching anywhere, and if you're free spool works, youll be off on a little journey of your own

anyways, once that is dont, and you load them up heaps, and the brake hold up, next thing to do is to stop your freespool lever from disengaging under heavy loads or extreme bouncing

PICS time:
the first picture shows the standard shaft with a c-clip and the bolt welded to it:

well have you tride it out yet to see if it works?

I just welded three washers together, to get a better look, anything that can slide over the shaft and be bolted tight to maintaint pressure against either the c-clip or the brake assembly itself will work!

EDIT: so i dont have the safety clip on my castelated steering nut :flipoff2: bite me, the thing has been retired from DD duties (finally)

stoner!! after blowing two brake assemblies off the winch, i have been using this for 6 months or so, not a lot of winching (well i winched ruffs truck onto its wheels the other week, but we did use a pulley to halve the load)

edit: by this i mean, i dont winch until its on its side, or wedged in tight, or FIRMLY not going ANYWHERE forward or reverse, or lots of broken stuff (i.e. two destroyed tyres, axle, pinion, vertical hill that i cant drive up without endoing down, or something)

but i have had it in use on my vehicle for some time, and finally got off my a$$ and took the pictures on the weekend, as well as painting some primer on it, so i dont get flamed for my bootie fab

YES it works, and works well, no more broken brake assemblies :flipoff2:

godzuki, that problem is inherent with 8274s, i dont think it would work on any other winch :flipoff2:

FINISHED and double bolted for extra bling!!

NOW: drill your free spool lever

see the hole where i have drilled
(this is a temporary fix until i go air operated) :flipoff2: air operated freespools that are chromed are all the rage!!

YEAH, im sure you all can make it look neater, so do it and leave me alone, id rather spend more time surifng the boards (i was gunna say 'wheeling' but thats such a cliche!!)

hullo, NICE

drill, drop a 'R' clip through it, or anything that wont rattle and or bounce out:flipoff2:
