I am changing a set of hub gears due to a broken tooth and I have the bolt out, and the hub off, (they were fun) but I don't see how to get the hub gear out of the housing.
I don't want to press it out and tear up the bearings.
I think i remember reading there is a clip? I dont see it.
is it just pressed out?
i have a leaky front so i will need to do it twice.

IIRC, the last time I had mine apart I grabbed onto the edge of the gear and pulled on that so I didn't fawk the cage on the bearing (that was last time:flipoff2:). Hope that helps and others chime in to say what they've done.

The only way I know of, and have ever done, it is to press the the hub gear set through the bearing. It shouldnt mess up the bearing; its press fit in there. There is a snap ring holding in the bearing.

As for the shaft gear bearings, you're supposed to press all three pieces, bearing-gear-bearing, at once to remove them. No jawed gear or bearing puller will fit behind there to grab it. I cant remember if I used a two-piece split design bearing puller to remove that outer bearing successfully, but Im pretty sure I did when I did my fronts. On the rears I yanked off the outer race, ground the inner race down until I could tap it with a hammer to get it to split and it slid right off; I couldnt fit the axle in my press. Hope this helps.

I have some good pics in this thread: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=483899&highlight=msi+portal+box+install

The gear presses out of the bearing.some are tight, some not so much.
Then you can see the snap ring that holds the bearing in. you will need
some good snap ring pliers for that one.
