Hello,
i read in the wikipedia article that the frame of the H1 Alpha uses better Steel than the previous H1 ... is that true or just wikipedia-bullshit?
Also someone told me, that the heavy payload versions of the HMMWV for a GVW of 11.000Lbs havinf the frame and suspension reinforced, is that frame reinformsement the same thing, which would be the easiest way i guess for AM general, or somehow different (more crossbars or something).

Edit: from what i read here: http://www.lynchhummer.com/changes/h1.changes/06/2006.html
the frame of the Alpha is all-new???? So is it the same used on the newer, heavier HMMWV's?
Or are those changes for the civilian truck only because of crash-registrations?
Greetings

That's correct, the frame on the Alpha is a 12K GVW frame and cross members used on the newer HMMWV's [the A2's used 10K frames]. It also uses larger disc brakes as well.
That being said, AM General upgraded the frames again after the Alpha with a sectional 3 piece frame, including one rated for 16K GVW, which would allow for a fully equipped and uparmored HMMWV to retain it's original 4,000 lbs of cargo capacity. Those frames were never offered on civilian trucks.
There are a handful of pre-Alpha 12K trucks out there, they were usually special order fleet trucks with the upgraded frame and brakes, and usually are packaged with a Detroit rear locker from the factory. Most of these trucks were bush firetrucks for the forest service and the BLM but I did see a 12K HMC4 hard top that used to be a BLM truck that's now in public hands.
It is possible to swap these parts onto a civilian truck, the upgraded frame and cross members pop up from surplus for pennies on the dollar. I know a few folks over on the HML forum who upgraded to the newer frame style. Not for the extra capacity, but rather to fix a bent or cracked frame and deciding to go with the latest version.
The control arms and a few other components did not change between the different chassis variations.

Hello,
ok so the Alpha Frame and the Frame used on the expandet capacity newer HMMWV (since 2005) are the same? I guess the talking about better steel quality was bullshit, since crossmembers and framrails are way more significant.
Would it be possible to upgrade the 12k frame to the 16k frame? It is of course only theoretical, since this would not be of any realy plus offroad or o any civilian use.
You are shure about the Indepandent suspension parts? Because this videao says different:http://www.amgeneral.com/corporate/media/?vID=00008
And it does make a lot of sense, 12k gvw offroad are a big deal, also the suspension and it's parts look different in the 12k versions.
But i guess the Alpha did not get those upgradet parts too, because his suspension looks the same, so he git the frame bot not stronger arms - is that correct?
