I don't exactly have a XC bike... but if it doesn't get in the way of my school schedule, maybe I'll come out if you guys need a person.

Besides riders we will also need a support group .

Leonel,

I am game. I haven't raced in over 2 years, but that is good because I will be rabid as hell and ready to rip it up. I need to drop about 15 lbs first, but that shouldn't be a problem. I have a neighbor who is a solid rider who also might be interested if you need another.

Me too. I am back on the 29th in the evening. I say we plan to do a ride on new years day. Nice informal one and then go get some food and talk about the game plan. Whaddya think?

And this time you are coming to the South Bay, vato!

oh yea,

When we get to the race, we all have to drive our rigs. Then we will park at the campsite with our trucks wheelstanding on each other. People will be freakin' out. That will be tight. The outlaws of MTB racing. We can have a team trailer with 44" boggers!

unless you're all members of the Pirates of the Rubicon 4 wheel drive club (POR), you might want to change it to PBB or you're asking for trouble.... also I would talk to Lance and the Pirates first about a PBB team (unless you already have) since they own the domain ;)

If they goes for it, they might even be able to get you some sponsors or something....

just my $.015

Leonel

I figured we get the Team together and come up with a game plan before we talked to Lance and prospective sponsors, POR jerseys and bibs with the skull will be really nice!;) i might just get a hot shower installed in the truck before the race!

HELL YEAAHHH Skeggs is the best in the bay area hands down. And it is fairly centrally located in San Mateo area.

I vote Skeggs.

Leonel
12-19-2002, 07:25 AM
The headlands is a better workout as there is a lot more climbing and you can make the ride as long as you want but Skeggs will work for our first team ride .
Everyone OK with this?

There is plently of climbing at Skeggs. We can park at the end of Porcha trail and start out with a climb to the top

Genshie

Leonel,

I know you are a mountain goat and all, but I am sure you will find that Skeggs has more than enough climbing than any hardtail, skinny tire, singlespeed, weenie can handle:flipoff2:

How about new years day at 10AM? This should give everyone enough time to wake up and recover from the night before.

Genshie

Skeggs Point:

You need to get to Hwy 84 which is most accessable by 280. So somehow get to 280 and 84 intersection. Once you do that, take 84 west toward La Honda. You will go through the town of Woodside and will climb a 3 mile road to Skyline Blvd (Hwy 35). At the top, go right. Follow 35 for about 4-5 miles. On your right hand side will be a parking lot with a big stone wall as the road bends to the left. Pull into that parking lot and look for a group of import trucks with big tires :flipoff2:

Pretty simple.

If you are coming from SF, you can alternatively take 92 from 280 toward Half Moon Bay. When you get to the top, go left on 35 and follow that for about 10 or so miles. As you climb a slight ascent, you will see the stone wall on your left with the parking lot as you bend to the right on the road. I am sure you will see a bunch of MTBrs rolling around by the time we get there.

Maybe between now and the day we get together to ride you guys can come up with sugestions on sponsors ,team name ,desing for a team outfit, etc. because if this thing does'nt fly with the Pirates we will have to present a proposal to other BB's

Sirachi
12-24-2002, 09:50 PM
If you're going the SF route described above... I don't know if this is still there, but don't break the rule and just make a turn into the parking lot. I've heard of many a people getting caught for that one.

I'll try and be there.

If only I had a xc bike, that'd be fun. If you want some very steep rewarding climbs check out Las Trampas from either the Alamo/Danville side or the Bollinger canyon side (Alamo/Danville better). Talk to the friendly folk at Danville Bike, especially Joe who would probably be more than happy to take you guys out on some fun rides. The number there is 837-0966 i think, let him know that Ian referred you. The other good climbing around here is obviously Mt. Diablo. Try the Wallpoint trail, Curry Point, Oyster Point, Summit, it's all good here. And Concord/Pleasant Hill has Briones which isn't super steep all over but definately has some good long rides. I just figured with some people south and others north of this area, it'd be a pretty decent centralized meeting point with some very nice riding. Hope some of this helps. If I get any type of better suited trail bike which will hopefully be soon, I'll personally show you around up here.

heh heh heh..

We got some video camera footage that I'll extract. No pics though..

We couldn't hang with you guys less than 5 minutes or so into the ride. Man, we should have taken the single track down! Crazy bastids, especially Leonel - single speed?????? Didn't know you'd be riding that there. Good thing we didn't go all the way down, I don't think we would have ever made it out... :D:D:D

Maybe we can do Gap or somethin next time for us uphill pansies? :flipoff2:

Carlmont looks like a pretty cool place. I would like to check it out sometime. I am sure that Leonel would too;) Single speed is just like having a 26" cruiser.

We ended up going way down into the park. The climb out was a f'n bitch. Leonel was hiking his bike half the time. The downhill was definitely well worth it though.

Too bad the 24 hours race doesn't have a downhill event! It's all good. Maybe we can set up a dirt jumping expo near our campsite for all the skinny tire XC weenies to gawk at.

We will probably do another ride the weekend after this. Stay tuned.

I jost got back from doing 50 easy miles to "recover" from yesterday's ride ..ha..ha..

Pete, make sure you spend a few minutes on a stationary bike spining at high RPMs after you do your squats and leg presses or you'll loose leg speed from the weights
