I'm thinking that when my c6 shits the bed I will swap in the T18a. I like the idea of manual plus the low (6.32) granny gear that the t18 has.
I guess the question is more of asking everyone's opinion on this swap. Pro's, con's, am I missing something?
It seems that this swap would be fairly simple with the right donor vehicle and cheaper than rebuilding the C6.
Any and all opinions please...

if you dont already have the t-18, go with a np-435, they are more commmon and have a 6.69 1rst and a lower 2nd gear 3.3?
i do know for the swap you will need to find a manual tranny truck and get the floor pan, unless you want to cut a hole in yours, the pedal assembly, clutch linkage, the bellhousing and adapter between the transfer case and tranny....thatsall i can think of right now

Thx for the reply. I was thinking that the T18 would be a little easier since it was an option in the 79 Bronco, do you know if the np435 was also?? Is the np435 a better tranny?? I know it has a little bit lower gears but in terms of strength, etc.
you will find more NP-435 trannies around in Fords than T-18's.
They are close enough in strength.
I'd just rebuild the C-6 and save yourself the hassle of swapping all the stuff......
Just my $.02

The swap takes about a day. There are alot of little things you need to make it right. The only way I would do it again, would be the way I did it before. We had a complete doner vehical sitting right next to the one we were doing. Makes it easy to get all the small parts. Clutch pedal, and safty switch, z-bar, flywheel backing plate, ect, ect.
To rebuild your C6, all new clutches, steels, filter, vac mod, shift kit, converter, mount, ect. less then $300. Avarage C6 life span 200,000 miles, life span of one that gets the hell beat out of it, 150,000 miles(as long as the plastic thrust washer was replaced with the brass/copper one.
The only major down fall of the C6 is that is sucks up alot of HP to turn the damn thing. The nice thing is you can use junkyard parts for the lower 1st/2nd gear.
