Hi Newby here Redcar Britain.

, my mog (58 8 speed 404 hybrid) has a oil leak from the front drive shaft gaiter, oily grease sorts stuff when parked after a drive. I bought a trany seal, 2 gaskets and a gaiter, but i tried to remove the extension on the transfer box, got as far as moving it forward 5mm:mad3:.
How dose the prop come off?` dose the axle need loosening and moving forward or should the forward transfer housing slide off the round knuckle?
I`m trying to replace the seal in the output of the box. any (constructive) advice gratefully taken

Remove boot, loosen collar. Attach ratchet strap to torque tube (where the bars attach) and ratchet forward 1-2 inches. The bolts to the driveshaft will be visible. Remove bolts and pull the axle down out of the way.

Cheers,

Scott

Thank you very much Scott ,FEW that's a relief I was beginning to think it was going to be a headache. Ratchet straps were such a great invention nearly as many uses as a mog.

I imagine there will be a centre bolt on the output flange that will have to come off in order to replace the seal, dose any one have a torque setting for this nut?

My mission after replacing the seal is to make an exaust stack as it just has a couple of foot pipe from the manifold (5cyl diesel fitted) and is too noisy for the roadwork.
She is a unimog running gear with a custom cab and tipper bed, I have a hydrophilic winch from a plant wagon i hope to have on quick release on the front and inside the tipper bed so i can drag things in to it using the sideboards as ramps.
Would like to make or fit a plough for some fun if we get snow like last year.
Not sure how to post pics on here yet

managed too get the damaged flange bolts out of the prop shaft flange and prop out of the housing ,
The uj is so badly damaged it has torn the baring hole in the prop fork wude open, warn the shaft on 1 side and also bent it...
I now need a shaft or one making any suggestions ? or up grades available?
Also going to check the transfur output baring

Thank you Zukibrit Would be very grateful , Id also like a power servo as she running 475 80 20 tyres and have been told they take some stopping,
Time to play with the exhaust and fit a heater box somewhere so I can go for a drive soon
