This question is for my supervisor who has an 1993 Explorer with push button 4wd. He cannot engage 4wd and the light does not come on when the button is pushed. He checked the fuses and they are fine. Is this a common issue with the explorers? I drive a Toyota so I wheel trouble free :flipoff2:

Since it's a '93, I guess that would make it somewhere around 10 years old now. Probably about time for that electronic motor that engages the 4 wheel drive to go out.
It's a very common problem with push-button cases.
And a very easy fix...I think.

The problem most likely is that the contacts inside the shift motor are dirty. Take off the shift motor and rebuild it. Its real easy. You will notice inside the brass contacts on the shaft will be near black. Clean those off with a solvent. Put back together. Attach back to transfer case. 4WD will work.
