Kifaru.net Slick bag in 0 degrees. they make a wide version, not down, but just as warm as one, very lightweight, and alot more waterproof than down. get the regulator stuff sack with it. just over $400. I've had a ton of bags, marmot, mtn. hardwear, etc in down and synthetic and this is the best one hands down.

I have been using a Slumberjack Big Timber

Love the bag, especially for the price. I normally bring a mummy bag with me too (north face cats meow), and put the mummy inside the big timber when it gets below 20°.

How about a back country blanket ?
Any down insulation you lay on, loses all of it insulating value anyhow . . . You can even get it double wide to fit the misses as well :D

Though, I use a Sierra designs Van Winkle.
Big head box & the whole body is stretchy. I can have both hands on my head with my elbows out & one foot on my knee, with my other knee out - totally warm & comfy :D
Also it has straps to tie it down to my pad, so when I toss & turn, it doesn't. Win.

Tiny pic . . .

I use a Mountain Hardware Extra Lamina Semi Rectangular 0 Degree bag. Its synthetic, has about 4" of loft works grea into the teens, and is plenty roomy. I hate mummy bags. I can turn over inside my bag no problem. Keeps me warm.

Im 5'11'' and i wouldnt go shorter, than the tall version.

I use one of the newer army two piece mummy bags, before that I had an army "mountain bag" dated in the early 40's. Both kept me warm in the 0-20* range by themselves sleeping under the stars next to the lake!

My favorite is Marmot, but it is a mummy. I bought a Kelty bag and it sucked bad.

I have this one. Good to -30F. Used it for my elk hunting trip this year. Was camping in a tent and single digits outside but I was sleeping in shorts and t-shirt. It doesn't roll up very small though

x3 on Big Agnes!

The built in pad compartment is very nice. I'm running a 20 degree Hog Park for camping in the Jeep, and a -20 Hahns Peak for backpacking.

While your at it, pick up the corresponding pads from Big Agnes. :grinpimp:

I have a bag like that but I don't really care. If it gets chilly I just turn up the heater. I don't sleep out of the Jeep anymore :shaking:

Look at both Western Mountaineering and Feathered Friends. Both are regarded as the top tier manufacturers in the mountianeering world, made in the usa and will do any custom job.

Highest quality everything.

western mountaineering alpinlite

it really depends on what you are using it for.
unless you are going to be in alpine conditions, serious backcountry travel where weight is a factor, extreme low temps/winter storms etc I would not recommend a high end bag.

IF you are going to be doing that stuff: Western Mountaineering, and Feathered Friends are the only two brands I would buy.

Mummy bags are awesome once you get used to them and realize you aren't jacking off in one while it's zipped up.

We maybe you can...

And yet another for the Big Agnes and make it a second on the Exped mat! That Exped mat actually makes it easy for me to go camping again since I have a degenerative back disease. I had quite all camping until I found and tried that sucker out, it really isn't much different from having a full size blow up mattress like you might keep for guests at your house. Very comfortable and very warm, also it packs up to be the same size as the Thermarest and only a few ounces heavier. With the wide Big Agnes and their pocket on the back you will never have to worry about sliding off your pad or feeling confined. October of 2010 I decided to go to Ouray, needless to say it was snowing. Not once did I get a bit cold with that combination, and the next morning when I broke camp the snow under the tent was solid as can be. No body heat made it through the tent and onto the snow to melt it!

Marmot for sure, they're new MemBrain bags are pretty sweet. Down with an attached waterproof outer shell. I have been using my current North Face -20 down bag with a water resistant nylon shell for years and it's taken me everywhere, yet packs down to the size of a grapefruit and weighs nothing.

Big Agnes all the way. Their sleeping bags have a sleeve on the bottom that allows you to slide their air mattress in. Prevents you from rolling off your pad at night. Just make sure that you pair up the currect temp pad to bag. There are tons of other good ones out there. It really depends on how much you want to spend. Big Agnes cn get pricey, but for someone (like me) who backpacks all the time, it is well worth it. If you just using it for you rig, and don't have to count the ounces or conserve on space. Just get a cheaper one.

Army sleep system, just because it's what I have. Not too tight of a mummy, reasonably warm if you use the whole thing. Actually not good in cold weather, you'd need a few more layers. Extra fleece blanket perhaps. Must be used with goretex cover to stop heat leaking out at rapid rate.

Have an old Coleman I really like. Wouldn't care to be out in the elements with it, but its just so spacious and comfy that for indoor use (or in a camper) it's the one I use.

Young daughter has an OLD army down mummy. Very warm. Doesn't care for sissy kid's pink sleeping bags, takes her musty old '60's green bag to sleepovers. Parents think we're hillbillys. Yeah, but my kid's WARM. Bag says it's a large. Somewhat small large, I can't fit.

If space isn't an issue, you can always stuff one bag into another. Make your own "sleep system".

North Face -20 down bag...packs down to the size of a grapefruit and weighs nothing.
Maybe a little bit larger melon? I've got North Face 15-degree and 0-degree down bags and can't smash either of them down any smaller than medium-sized honeydew. Not even close to the size of a grapefruit, even in compression-sacks. Sea-to-summit's super lightweight waterproof compression sacks. Only thing I've got that approaches something the size of a grapefruit is my silk North Face sleeping bag liner, and that's only good to about 45-degrees by itself.

i don't carry just one bag. my set up uses three different bags that i can insert into each other to get just the right comfort level for the temps outside. all are synthetic as they do so much better in damp, humid conditions. all are fairly light weight so the total package isn't really big, heavy, and bulky. when put all together, i can handle temps close to zero comfortably.
1. lighter 1.5lb qualofil bag that is fleece covered and lined.
2. guide gear fleece bag with nylon covering (goes over the qualofil bag)
3. emergency tyvek/mylar sleeping bag, the heavier, reusable one. this goes between the other two bags for really cold temps.
they go on top of a better quality foam pad, and i just put them together as needed for comfort.
i'm good to go for camping or the b-o-b.

I use a Big Agnes XL bag (I'm big, about 270 LBS) with an REI inflatable pad. The BA bag doesn't have insulation on the bottom, but It's pretty warm. I've done 20 degree nights in Johnson Valley in it. Keep in mind that the temperature ratings are for you fully clothed inside that bag. A tent adds about 10 degrees, and a liner adds another 10 to the rating.
