: OBA, the saga continues (electrical)
LordRatner 12-18-2002, 07:38 PM Ok, first, thanks for all your help so far. I got the kilby kit and serpentine clutch, all in. The hose is on the way, horn is clean, and I am working on the tank. My question is: I have some toggle switched that I intend to use for the compressor. Do I need to run a relay for the compressor clutch to the switch, or can I just run the power through the switch? the toggle switch says:
3A 125VAC
1.5A 250VAC
on it.
Also, how hard is it to weld on a tank? I need to make a braket, and I want to know if welding one on would be better than attaching the tank by otherways. Thanks
TPIJeep 12-18-2002, 07:52 PM Do you have a PSI switch to cycle the pump on and off? and no you will not need a relay, the clutch does not draw that much..
Yes you can weld to the tank, but take it easy, they are not the thickest things in the world..
CJ-Jeeper 12-18-2002, 07:57 PM I do'nt use a relay on mine.
I'm not an electrician, but your switch is rated in AC, so it's probably not intended for atomotive use (DC). I do'nt see why it would'nt work though. Should be good for 30 amps @ 12.5 volts, which is plenty.
LordRatner 12-18-2002, 08:25 PM Ok, thanks for the info. I will try the switch.
No, I dont have a PSI switch. I am planning on just doing it by ear.
Next, does anyone know where I can get a momentary toggle switch that will fit in the red flip up cover thingies? I need it for the BigRig horn I am putting in.
Btw, joking on the PSI switch thing.
Po' riggity 12-18-2002, 09:52 PM Seth.. you scared me on the whole doing the pressure switch by ear thing lol. As far as wiring, I just used one of the kilby milspec switches, but any halfway decent toggle switch should be just fine, and you won't need a relay.

i told ya i could weld on the tank, if you feel like waiting till the next class starts we could even TIG it if you want;)
Dan-H 12-18-2002, 10:55 PM at least get a 5 buck popoff safety valve and set it to 140psi.
pressure switches are not that much $$ and make it a no-brainer.

I don't know what size switch you need but this company has plenty to choose from. You can buy there switches from West Marine.
I have one of there 147939-101's for my OBA and it fit perfectly in a toyota switch hole. I also have one of there Mom on -off-Mom on DPDT switch for my winch that also fits in a toyota hole.
Hope it helps
