More wiring shots! I am cleaning up my 16v wiring harness right now. I stripped all the wiring for the lights and cruise control out, going to work on the transmission stuff tonight. Looks like I can ditch all the relays except the one for the factory fuel pump. Any other pointers? BTW kick@ss wiring job. I have something to shoot for now

DSI and AZ, you guys doing your own 16V wiring?

12-19-2002, 01:31 PM
WTF ? I think its great !!! Doing a clean wiring job is not somthing eveyone is capable of. And to reuse stock/existing stuff take patience.... Nice Job...!

I'd rather look at this stuff all day then read ass hole newbie posts about door handles..... Comments like that keep people from sharing when they "DO" actually have somthing cool....

Post away !!!!

I am attempting it. I searched all the big Suzuki boards for info on this (spent 2 days on ORC reading thru posts) and found almost nothing. Seems everyone pays to have the harness modified. There are a few who have done it but nobody has done a write up or how-to. When I get done I'll do a write up on what I did (if it works :D ). Since I just want the motor to run, I believe I need to keep everything that goes into the ECU minus the transmission wires. I'll use my existing harness on my steering column for lights, starter, etc. DSI's setup confirms my plan, looks like he eneded up with a few connectors which go to the motor.

damn i would be tempted to have crash do the wiring going into my rig if he wasn't so far from here. i watched the redo of his rig on the toy board and now yours is equally as sweet!i guess i should just muster up the patience and take my time. there is nothing wrong with my harness now but it is not routed nearly as neatly as his jobs! anyway the whole buggy is looking sweet!

i know what you mean. i run auto meter guages and the bezels are deep. if the guages are not infront of you or pointed at you the faces can sometimes be hard to see. autometer makes angle rings for the smaller guages so you can angle them towards you. this doesn't help with the tach's though.

here is a pic of the autometer angle rings i am/will be using. i just set up the dash on my cruiser/buggy that i am in the process of building and i used them on the three guages in the center of the dash. i know it looks crappy now but i just set up the dash and drilled all of the holes before i tear it down again for paint. anyway you can kinda see the rings on the three guages. they are like $6 for 3 from summit if i remember right.

There was something posted on the Topica mail list about doing the 16V conversion, but that was around 18-20 months ago. It had the breakdown of all the wires, and I believe what to use and how too hook it up to the stock(sami) wiring. I had printed it out, but have moved 2 times since then so I dont know where it is to get the web addy off it ... but there was a post on it

AZ, thanks for the kind words :D it didn't actually take him that long to do it considering he's only got 1 arm at the moment, the other's casted from just below his shoulder all the way down  he used a factory service manual for the electronic's and the most tiem consuming part i saw was shortening the harness, it's not fully done, as i intend to put everything in taped loom, and silicone the rubber boot into the firewall (reused stock innerfender gromet) :D he also cut out alot of systems on it, EGR, gone, and the two sensors @ the front of the intake are also gone, started first try, and runs perfect, as soon as i can find the plug for a scan tool we will see how many codes it throws not having the VSS, EGR, and other circuits :D

and he was equally as careful and clean about having the line lock's, winch, and start button in a center console, along with wiring the tail/stop lamp in and having the wires run for the headlights/rocklight :D

I searched back thru 99, didn't see anything technical on the conversion (something along the lines of you need x,x,and x wires). Such a beast exists for the 1.6 8v.

lol, well, i didn't forget it per say, didn't find anyplace where it was truely needed. I guess the pcm is unable to reconize ignition feed/crank sensor input/cam sensor inputs to relize it was indeed cranking,lol..

man, last winter i tried strippin my own wiring harness(like all that carb-feedback crap, for instance) and took me forever to get everything working again...routing wasn't a problem for me, it was making everything "accesable"; which didn't turn out too bad....good job on the wiring, Crash, that's sumthin i could never make look good like yers did.
