: Did I score the F150 springs?

They're 53" long, 24" to the short side, 29" to the long side...

You can see that the bottom-most leaf is broken on one pack... are you guys running all 4 leaves, or ditching the bottom one?

They appear that they'd bolt right up after making a new shackle hangar for the rear... am I way off? I'm running stock 40 springs, reversed, SOA.

Oh, the price was right ("go head and take 'em if ya ont 'em"), even if I *need* that 4th leaf, or they aren't right at all, I'm not out a dime..

I was looking for F150 leaves and couldnt find much around here. I ended up having a guy contact me telling me he had some off a 78. They are pretty much just like yours. 53" and 24" offset. Mine are 3" wide though are yours? I am going to run mine anyway. If they dont work I will look elsewhere. I think they will be just fine though.

I am also curious if everybody is running the whole pack or taking some out:confused:

Nice find Rich:D

Can you (if you need) run a mix of your springs and the F-150 springs? Are they the same width?

F150 springs are 56" long and they are 2.5" wide. If you have 3" springs, they are probably Bronco springs since they don't have the overload spring.

Mine do have the overload and are 3". They guy swore they were off a 78 F150:confused:

Still waiting to see what leafs (or if all) people are running. :flipoff2: Should I take the overload out?

Then they still could be Bronco springs with the overload. I have seen them both ways. Now that I think about it, Ford may have switched to the 2.5" springs in the early 80s when they changed body styles. So I guess you could have some 3" F150 springs. I am just used to the 80 and up F150 springs which are 56" long and 2.5" wide. Sorry for the confusion.

I ran the F150s with all 4 leafs plus I used another main leaf and cut the eyes off so I made it a 5 leaf pack. You probably don't have to do this with the 3" wide springs.

I thought f-150 springs were 57" inches long and had an offset of about 7 inches.

It all depends on what year you use.

Mid 80s 24.5" + 31.5" = 56"

Hrmmm.. maybe I'll make a combo cruiser/whatever the fawk pack that I have...

I thought they seemed a bit soft... darnit.

Time to start splitting the packs... maybe I'll save this for the rear axle swap.

Has anyone tried bronco II springs with the stock fronts soa?
With an add a leaf they appear to be a perfect match height wise and even flexier than 150's.
Plus you can either gain an inch of wheelbase flipped to max wb. or with the short side forward loose an inch on the 150's, but have a centered wheel in the well.

That mesurement seems off alittle(even if it's not loaded)I'm not sure how you measured them, but the springs in that pic are definately F150s. They are beefy springs(for a 40) and flex great! I like them because I have them mounted on a custom hanger, outboard and high on the side of the frame. They still have enough arch to give clearance to just about any size tire. I cant imagine having these things mounted to a hanger that would sit below the frame, unless some arch or leaves were removed. Right now I run the 4 leaves with the overload cut down(just adds a very small amount of lift to the pack)

Now some data, There are actually two different lengths of these springs(I'm not including the small Rangers which are the next longest or BroncoIIs-shorter yet-but flexy) On the *F150s* from 87 to 93 used a spring that was 1" longer on the long side. This spring will have a "D" code in the last few digits of the VIN. I think this is why some say they are 56" and others say 57"....

Now the 3" VS 2.5" thing The 3" wide spring has nothing to do with Broncos. The 3" wide springs were the 4wd version( I have yet to see a 2wd full size Bronco sitting in the junk yard, that's why you will always see the 3"s on Broncos) With the pickups it's a 50/50 or better chance you'll find a 2wd version with 2.5s which are easier to accomodate for obvious reasons.

FWIW I still prefer Waggys for the front due to flex and wheelbase, but F150s are awesome on the rear....

I measured from eye to eye, straight across the spring, and the used a straight edge to go from the pin up to where the tape measure was laying across... I'm pretty sure it's right, if it's off, it might only be a tiny bit...

I was hoping to run them with 3 leaves in both... That way, I could ditch the broken bottom leaf...

But since I can't weld, it's gonna have to wait. (shackle hangar)

You are supposed to measure leaf springs when they are flat, not across the arch. Take a tape measure and run it from the center of the eye and along the main leaf to the center pin and then back along the leaf to the other eye. Measuring across the arch really doesn't tell you how long a spring is since it gets longer as it flattens out. My measurements were for a flat spring.
