: SD Crew- Rumors of losing Hal Johns trail system?

I've been hearing nasty rumors that we may lose the Hal Johns trail system to a housing development. Is this true? If so, what can I do? I assume that there must be some info out there somewhere, as well as, a way to make myself heard. I've talked to Wrigglesworth and he's supposed to be getting back to me, but I haven't heard anything yet.
For those who don't really know the area well, this area contains some sweet trails like Twisted, Kong, and Fullsize. Some obstacles that you may recognize are the Waterfall and Skyscraper on Hal Johns. I'm pretty sure those have had their fair share of coverage by now.

Give me some more info? Who in their right mind would start something like that out there? Maybe 1 mile off the highway, 2 miles before you get to the trail head????

Here is a copy of the response
i recieved back from the Land Use Chair with the Black Hills 4 Wheelers

Brian,

Thank you for your concerns and offer to help. You may regret that offer
someday :^) There is always the danger of closure of trails that we face out
here in the Black Hills however, you may be slightly misinformed if you are
thinking there is a potential blanket closure of "the" trails in the hills.
The issues we face are on a case by case basis in specific planning units
within the Black Hills.

Right now, we are facing closures with the planning for transportation and
rehab of the Roger Shack/ Jasper burn areas, the burn area rehab in and around
Rockerville, some potential closures in a planning for the Prairie Project in
the Mystic Ranger District and perhaps most importantly, on a project in the
planning stages called the Elk Bugs and Fuel project which will affect the area
around Kong and Hal Johns Trails.

In working with the Forest Service during the planning phases of all such
projects, where we find we will need help the most is in commenting on these
projects once the Draft Environmental Impact Statements hit the streets. I
will keep your contact on file and notify you as best I can on these issues as
we need your help.

Once again, thank you for your interest and your offer to help. For those of
us who seem to fight an never ending battle, it is refreshing to see
willingness to come along side in the fight. I am sure we will find a way to
make use of you and your constituents.

Hmmm...That's messed up. That's mine and my pal's site and I missed that post!
I had already heard that Bikini and T-back were apparently closed due to the fire situation last summer, and now they may not be reopened, but I didn't know about some of the other stuff going on. I hate being this far away from the game. If anyone has further info, keep me/us posted.
www.midwestcrawler is a place where we hope to unite most midwesterners. It may be working!
Hey, Stomper! Haven't heard from you in a while. How's the Zuk? Did you get a chance to see my 'Kick, yet? How am I doing? :D
