: CTM stub shafts and Updates.
tjmark 01-07-2012, 08:25 AM Well I figured it has been about a year so i would give some updates on how the portals are holding up with all my upgrades..
Lower kingpin fix has really been great...
I hit a rock prerunning a coulple weeks ago and broke a rim a cut 2 tires..
644680
644681
Jack called and said the 300m stubs were done at the same time so i decided to pull the boxes apart to check everything..
old shaft
644683
New CTM 300M
644684
I broke a upper kingpin at the notch for the pin..
So CTM is making me 300m upper kingpins.
So list of my portals parts are
MSI boxes
No Limit Crew lower kingpin fix (4340 heat treated capture bolt)
Spidertrax brakes
Billet hubs
31spline 9" aluminum center
ruffstuff housing
CTM 300m stub shafts..
CTM 300m upper kingpin.
Axles are now at the point i can roll the car jump it off a cliff or hit a 2' bolder at speed and they just keep on rock-in...
Is it Cheep -NO but still cheaper than a spidertax full tilt axle and more clearance and more advantages, and strength...

jh206 01-07-2012, 06:20 PM Wow those stubs are bad!!
That is great looking stuff!
glad to see you are still wheeling and enjoying the rig:)
blue_toy 01-09-2012, 12:38 PM nice info, do you know how your axle setup compares to stock 419's for strength?

No way to tell.
But
They are alot lighter than 419's...
I am running 650c Crank HP and pretty much take off spining the tires and stop spining when i shut it off...:grinpimp:
The stock resplined shaft i have in the rear looks great but the stubs twist.
I bought 3 300m replacement inners. But looking back now i'd just respline stock long side shafts..
I would imagine the next break would be the u joint turing the wheel at full throttle. and hooking up.

Wait till you see the "No Limit Crew Chassis" we are working on.
It will be a pouspose built go fast long travel portal chassis..
I have 21" rear travel now with portals and it hauls but the next chassis should be even better.
No way to tell.

My 406/9 front was 529.
A stock 406 disk is 632.
A stock 404 front with disk conversion is 538
404 front housing and diff are 185
9" 3rd with cast housing is about 80
9" 3rd with alum chunk/pin support is 63
spidertrax housing is 80
So my guess is a 404 front with spidertrax housing, alum 9" chunk, and chevy disk conv would be a hair under 500. Might take some more off for blingier brakes (vs my cast rotor/stock chebbie caliper setup).
Sound right?

My toy front is just at 400 lbs:smokin:
rear 9 is about 450
xtremexj94 01-12-2012, 07:04 AM So, the million dollar question, what are those stubs worth? Also, are you guys going to produce those kingpin bolts for sale? I'm sure several of us would be willing to spend the money on them.

Yep! What he said.
tjmark 01-12-2012, 06:21 PM CTM shafts are $$$ Jack can tell you the price...
To me they are worth it..
But if you have to ask they are not for you i would say..
The kingpin fix bolts were designed from a couple friends drinking beer and wanting to make them better.
If you really want some i am not a distributor but can make another batch..
They are very $$.. I want to say almost 30$$ per bolt at COST!!!
One off stuff is very $$ to have made..

I've had him quote inners for me so I suspect the stubs are about the same cost. I have worked in the automotive aftermarket for 20yrs so I am well aware what custom stuff costs, no illusions here. ;) Come up with a price you would sell those bolts at and PM me.

Glad u understand...
We are running another batch in a few weeks for are gruop of wheeling buddies..

XTRMTOY 01-13-2012, 02:52 PM I'd gladly take a price on those bolts as well. Can you also PM me that?
xjweeble 01-13-2012, 06:04 PM DirtBuilt makes the bolts and soon kingpins.

Thanks XJ.
kiyul4130 01-15-2012, 08:57 PM im interested in the kingpin fix. my buddy who doesnt really get on here has had that problem which ive heard is common of it walking down into the C. didnt whitebro tig weld some chromo ones in? id subscribed to this for future updates and will keep my friend posted on this.
tjmark 01-16-2012, 06:44 AM JR Was the original Guy to weld the STOCK kingpin in...
I wanted to capture the kingpin so I had a bolt made. Dirtbuilt drew it up and sent it out to be machined.. I machined the Knuckle and kingpin then I tig welded the Kingpin in and Put in the new capture bolt.
No one has made 300m Upper kingpins. I have been working on a new design but everything takes time.. If i Make some I want to remove the week links. ( I read someone made oversized kingpins once i think but not 300M)
As a group like mentioned earlier " The no limit crew" Mark,(75FAB)-Shane(Dirtbuilt)-Quinn(74Weld)
is now all going portals in time cause we like the advantages they provide.
We all fabricate and brainstorm. I don't believe any one of are companies is solely response for portal update innovation.

xtremexj94 01-16-2012, 03:10 PM Mark, did you have a thread going that showed all the mods required to use these bolts? I tried searching through your posts last week but couldn't find one that showed anything.
