What have you done to keep your 700-R4 cool?

I don't have a cooler in the radiator. I am considering putting a B & M 28,000lb tranny cooler with cooling fan and thermostat under the hood. I think I can locate it under where the clutch reservior used to be. Does anyone know if this will be sufficient? Obviously I don't want to burn up the tranny. I thought I would set the thermostat for 175-180 degrees.

it helps to know what else you're running...

i.e., if you're running an iron duke and 31s with 3.54s, i don't think you're going to need a tranny cooler.

if you're running a blown SB400 with 4.88s and 44s, however...

Best way to keep it cool is to tie about 200 feet of 5/8" nylon rope and toss it over the bow <IMG SRC="smilies/wink.gif" border="0">

j/k, I was looking at some tranny coolers for my wifes runner and came across some that were long and narrow and looked like they would tuck up along a frame rail nicely.

Oh, btw, this is on a TJ 4.0 liter. He's swapping in an auto behind an atlas.

I'm hoping somebody has some real world experience that has already swapped in a 700-R4 and worked out the cooling bugs.

Dans also right that it's between a stock 4.0L and an Atlas 4.3 . I'm adding D60's front and rear with 5.13 gears. Have 35 x 14.50 SSR's.
