I'd hate to see another trail system I love get gated. Aetna is under the gun again.

Unfortunately, we aren't getting the kind of response I had hoped for in the signature department. We are still under 4,000 of the 50,00 we need and the deadline is closing in :(

Alot of people talk about land use and wanting to do something but when it comes time for action many of those people are nowhere to be found.

It's sad really.

sucks doesn't it? when we were doing the tellico rally and were getting letters togther I knew a few people that didn't want to participate because they thought it wouldn't help. now those same people have their backyard in danger. I went and signed the petition. I also got my wife and kid to sign it. I saw some of those names I knew on the petition list that didn't feel like participating last time. maybe one day people will realize just because it's not in your backyard doesn't mean it won't be soon. I hope TWRA doesn't take any notes from the USFS. good luck.

Remember, public lands are very much like your personal freedoms -- once they are taken away you will never have them returned to you. If this happens as it is stated it will forever remove public access from Aetna Mountain. How many people have intentions on hiking up Aetna in the future if that's the only permitted access? I bet that's a big economic boost for TN compared to the ATV, 4x4, camping, and hunting participants' expenditures year round.

It seems folks are all over the headquarter's FB page, they are asking folks to comment on Region III's FB page. I did both. I ask that you do the same, but remember to be respectful, honest, and remember the TWRA agents in the field aren't making these calls.

It's disappointing that more folks haven't signed the petition. Like every other part of society today, too many people keep their heads buried in the sand, they were perhaps raised with a defeated attitude and have no belief in their ability to affect anything in their own life. Perhaps another clear reminder of where we are as a country today.

I was not here when Tellico went down to the exact same attack, but I knew about it and helped where I could. Now I am here, and Aetna is under the exact attack, and while it may be true that it will go down similarly (after all there is no accountability in these decisions), you damn well better believe it will not be without a fight.

Done!

I hope this doesn't happen to Aetna! The Tellico closure has severely affected the economy of the offroad industry in Murphy, especially tourism. It's like a ghost town on the weekends here when before it was jam packed with tow rigs and trailers hauling all kinds of rigs.

OHV apathy. Par for the course. :shaking:

WE CANNOT JUST FIGHT FOR OUR OWN BACKYARDS. WE NEED TO HELP EACH OTHER OUT.

Aetna is a little different than Tellico though. In Tenn. they do not have to follow the NEPA process. Meaning there is no public input period, and they don't have to follow set guidelines and rules to shut us out.

I am not completley sure if this is better or worse for us.

Does anyone know what southern 4wd is doing?

It's posted in a few different places on pirate. There was a huge ride this weekend to sign a paper petition. We shut the county down. There was a line to get in at least half a mile long! I heard there were 30 to 40 thousand signatures.

The same thing they did with Tellico. They are locked in a room somewhere circle jerking each other with the donated money. If the place ends up getting shut down they will come out into the spotlight with all kinds of promises and big news in attempts to raise more money. Then, a few years down the road they will begin pointing fingers.

Same old song and dance with that crew unfortunately. :(

Wasn't there going to be a new group that was getting started a year ago that was going to a better job than sfwda is doing? I think Rockrawl and McCracken had talked about it. Are they in a position to do something or have they dropped the ball like sfwda?

It wouldn't take much to do a better job that SFWDA in terms of taking action. Unfortunately, the one thing it would take is money. Lots of money.

Southern has done a real good job of collecting people's hard earned money over the years and using it for thier own agenda. Now that people have seen this they are afraid and unwilling to donate to new organizations. It's sad really

LOL!!! nice. don't answer the question so just divert the attention elsewhere :shaking:

here's the real explanation of what that was about and it needs to be aired. Gary and I put it together. I built the website and had it ready to launch. Hell for that matter you could launch it today. We got shut down by camo when it all came about. Until we could provide the proper non-profit documentation we were not supposed to talk about it anymore or promote it. I couldn't put up $600 dollars and I didn't feel comfortable putting that burden solely on Gary. I had my kid in September and didn't feel like I could put the time in that it deserved and that's where it's at.

I'm currently working with a local club doing what the purpose of the whole group was about. Starting small and working with areas that need help that Southern wouldn't provide.

That's all the explanation you're going to get because there is no more. Gary and I both are working with our own clubs doing what we feel is needed. Gary can tell you about what's happening at Windrock. There's some good stuff happening with Southern's help.

Now back to the real topic. We need more help to save another threatened piece of wheeling ground.

ps - how'd that new Southern newsletter guy work out? LOL!!

I had my kid in September and didn't feel like I could put the time in that it deserved...

Congratulations! Is that your first?

Look you're telling the same story most people tell when they are asked to volunteer for a cause. They got their own lives, families and jobs to deal with and someone is asking them to commit what little spare time to go off as a volunteer. I'm not faulting you.

For the record, I don't belong to SFWDA and I ain't pimping for them either. I brought it up because I thought it might be an opportunity that you and Gary could use to build your group. That's all.
