: 8lug rotors for 14 blt axle. Is this possible?????
KYJ10 01-01-2003, 09:05 PM I am getting ready to swap a 14 blt into my J10 .I am planning on doing the disk conversion, but was thinking. Could a machine shop convert the 8 lug rotors into 6, or an even better question, are there any chevy 6 lug rotors that are the same size as the 8 lug rotors? Then I could use my exsisitng 6 lug rims and also have more backspacing options for this 14blt swap if I needed different bs. Thanks Dennis

Well, yes and yes. But the rotors aint the problem. You need to convert the hub to 6 lug. The way the hubs are on my 14FF will not allow a conversion to 6 lug. I have not heard of anyone making 6lug rotors for the 14FF. You could have someone make them for you but it aint worth the money.

Scout Dude 01-01-2003, 09:34 PM It can be done, but it costs a lot...
4x4realm 01-01-2003, 10:19 PM Here is a link to a site that makes an addapter from 8 to 6 lug then you could use the normal 8 lug disk breaks.

YNOTP 01-02-2003, 10:31 AM Check this out from the Echobit link...

u2slow 01-02-2003, 10:39 AM Another way to run 8-lug discs (or drums):

YNOTP 01-02-2003, 07:44 PM I got the set from Echobit, they go on your hub with the lug bolts and if you want to go back to the 8 bolt pattern you just remove it and your back to the 8 lug stuff...
charlo 01-02-2003, 08:19 PM Hey U2slow, Nice fork lift :flipoff2:
What springs are you running up front?
I never like those wheel adapters. Its hard enough getting big ass tires to spin true/balance well without them. If I were you I whould invest the money in a 8lug front axle rather than waste money converting to 6 lug.

YNOTP 01-02-2003, 10:12 PM I wanted to go 8 lug but the cost of the front hubs($250.00/350.00), new rims($225.00), remounting my tires($75.00 if I stay with 15"inch rims) or new tires($850.00 for 16"tires) is a lot of money, I just bough the 14bolt and still need the locker so this is a way to get it on and work up to the Dana 60.

Fork you! :flipoff2: :p
Its just a link - not mine ;) I think its Donovan's page.
I was smart enough to start this game with 8 lugs :D
YNOTP 01-03-2003, 10:24 AM Wish my K5 came with 1 ton axles but damn if chevy put 1/2 ton axles under it, what were they thinking??? So I guess if you buy a 1/2 ton truck 8 lugs are something you put on youeself....

Yes they are.
I wanted to go 8 lug but the cost of the front hubs($250.00/350.00),
Seems like $350 would buy a complete 8lug D44hd to me. Maybe my pricing is off though. You would have to grind some off the calipers I think but not much. The guys on this board tend to find great prices so ask around.

I looked at doing that but hanging a new axle or just hubs in the front is a lot of work, plus I want to go Dana 60 one day. For the cost and being able to just remove the ring to go back to 8 lug was the closer for now....
GRMhick 01-04-2003, 10:57 AM another option is there is a semi floating kit for the 14 bolt.. uses all 10 botl breaks, and it is 6 lug... but it sounds like it would prob be more than you want to spend.

YNOTP 01-04-2003, 11:10 AM this way I can keet the 8 lug bolt pattern untouched and use my 14FF, then spend the $300.00 on a locker and I'm good to go. If I ever find or have the money for a Dana 60 I could sell the 8 to 6 lug kit and I wnat to keep the 15" rim setup,so I would go to he 8 lug 15" rim...
YnotP,
there is a pantsload more work then just bolting on adapters.
if you look you may notice the 14ff hubs have been machined to allow the rims to fit over them.
now if you are extremely attached to your 6 lug wheels(and they cannot be factory ones as the centre opening is too small) and wish to spend extra cash (over just converting the front to 8) to keep them, have at it.
I say it is just stupid but whatever floats your boat.
8 lug 3/4 front axles are $100 type items and the swap is no harder then a front ujoint change.
YNOTP 01-06-2003, 10:59 AM mj,
I'm doing a rear disk conversion so I had to take the hubs off anyway, I had the hubs turned down to fit the 6 lug rim and cost for turning was $50.00. Taking the hubs off was simple, pressing the lug bolts off the drums just took a little hitting with a hammer and peice of wood.
ChevyGal 01-09-2003, 12:10 AM There's some guys who make kits to swap from 8 lug to 6 lug on www.ColoradoK5.com you might want to look into... :)
YNOTP 01-09-2003, 10:59 PM got the disks on so the next pic will be of the 8 ot 6 lug ring..

charlo 01-10-2003, 02:03 AM Thats a fancy looking caliper. Musta set you back a lot more than the $16.95 ones I put on.
When you drove the lugbolts back in(if you did) was the diameter of the lug bolt smaller than the hole in the rotor? I got new lugbolts because I didnt like the way they left the rotors "floating". It led to more runout than I was comfortable with.

YNOTP 01-10-2003, 07:43 AM Charlo,
I'm putting on this ring, it has tube washers that you press into the rotors so the lug bolts fit snug on the rotors...it will allow me to keep the 8 lug set-up and bolt a 6 lug rim on it. Then if I ever find a Dana 60 (for cheap) I have not drilled out anything to change the 8 lug pattern, so I just remove the ring and press the lug bolts back in and I'm back to the 8 lug set-up.
