: Help I am lost in the desert
Chris Geiger 01-02-2003, 05:39 PM Help me find my way to the Put Up or Shut Up event!
Does anyone have GPS numbers for where this thing is at?
I drove an hour down a dirt road called camp rock road (off of 247)and I am sitting here in the middle of the desert.
I have tried calling Rich but he is not answering his phone.
Lance 01-02-2003, 05:49 PM cool. :D
Travis Waldher 01-02-2003, 05:50 PM
Que the local "deliverance" hick to pull up and "help" you.
-----------------
From Barstow, 247 to North Side Road, Left on North Side, to Harrod Road, right on Harrod, look for CalROCS signs and follow.
From Victorville: 18 east past Lucerne Valley, turn left onto Camp Rock Rd.,
Look for CalROCS signs and follow.
--------------------------
scratch that... umm... looking on a map now.
Travis Waldher 01-02-2003, 05:59 PM ok.. when you turned left on to camp rock road... you follow it and it turns in to harrod road. Somewhere around 8 miles after you made that left on to camp rock, thats when it turns in to harrod. AFter that I would assume continue on until you see the signs.
note - you'll hit northside road in about 10.5-11 miles from that turnoff on to camprock road form hwy 18. If you hit north side road.. you went to far, turn around and head back the other way looking for signs. :)

I was comming from the hammer trails, I went about 20 minutes up 247 and turned right on camp rock rd. I am about 10 miles down that road. I passed a large sign that says Johnson Valley OHV (just like the sign on the way to means dry lake), I am about 2 miles past that point.
I just finished dinner, and I will drive on a few more miles and see what I can find. Thanks.
Chris Geiger 01-02-2003, 07:01 PM Drove on another few miles and still no sign of life out here.
I could really use some GPS info right about now.
Note to all event planners, if your going to have your event out in the middle of the desert please include GPS info on where it's at.
Travis Waldher 01-02-2003, 07:03 PM Do you have some coordinates of where you are? I have maps of the area on my computer... I can figure out where you are and where you need to be. based on their written instructions.
btw - the corner of North Side Road and Harrod Road is at the following coordinates:
N34*31.848
W116*51.460
btw - you find it... let us all know... before we send the benders after ya. :D

Travis Waldher 01-02-2003, 08:16 PM ah shit.. I know where you messed up man...
ok.. going in on 247 when you took that right on to camp rock road. You should have stayed to the left 3.99 miles in. That would have put you on Harrod Road. The Calrocs signs should have been in there somewhere in that 2 mile stretch before you run in to northside road.
Hope that helps... sorry I didn't put 1 and 1 together sooner.
Big Rich 01-02-2003, 10:12 PM Where camprock makes the 45*, about 4 miles up from 247, it crosses granite, make the right onto granite, 1.5 miles on the dirt road turn right go to the rocks about .5 miles.....we've had problems with the locals missing with the signs.

Chris Geiger 01-02-2003, 11:05 PM Ok I found it!
Rich the signs suck, you had better get on them first thing in the morning.
Just a note, if you put a sign before a T in the road, whitch way do you go? Hint: Put an arrow on the sign, it would help a lot.
The next was was even better, As your going along, you have to make a hard right, but there is not sign at all at this turn, until youjust happen to turn down the right road and then after a little ways you see a sign, after you have drived up and down road after road finding dead ends.
Well it took me 5 hours to go from the Hammers to the event, yes just a 40 mile drive, sure if you know the way.
The event camp site is located at:
N34 29' 40.8"
W116 49' 30.3"
If you don't have a GPS, buy one up before you come out!

I have the "joke" instructions from the sign up page. That just gets you to the first sign. From there is hell to find.
Wilson 01-02-2003, 11:46 PM Well, now you're there. So it's time to put up!
Get it Chris, make us toy guys proud.

Giving people a GPS track to follow would still be a good thing. ;)
