We could re-do some of them. We could expand on some of them. Or we could cover new ground.

Suggest something that sucks, and you get put on my shit list.

I want to learn how to put full-width axles in my CJ7. I know academically how to do it, but I want to experience it first hand.

I also want to learn how to set up gears.

Fabbing - specifically, how to notch tube to the right dimensions and angles to get it to fit right. The bending makes sense to me, but the notching...

I want to know how to plant a tree that grows LT1's, NV4500's, AtlasII's, and HP60's. And a bogger tree would be nice too.

Actually, I'm gonna learn to set up gears on my HP44 and Waggy AMC 20 this month.

Thanks Lame, now I need to do the same thing with 14 bolt full floater outers... :D Hopefully it can be done with just a sleeve on the ends of the tubes near the spindles..

Theoretically you can... it'd be like turning the 14b spindles to interferrence fit inside the 60 tube. Close.. maybe close enough

I want to find a way to build a strong steering axle without using 60 parts($$$$$$). There has got to be a cheaper way.
I started on a homefabbed bearing knuckle design that had to be scrapped because I found a fatal design flaw!:(

I'd like to learn more about axle wrap and geometry towards suspensions. I'm under the illusion that correct mounting and placement can mitigate/eliminate these issues. :D

I'm learning to weld this year. By the end of the year I hope to have a few things made for my jeep.

My big goal this year is to learn to weld - bought a pos mig welder and I am ready to start fires! My other goal is to do a little competition - planning to run stock-modified at Neuroc.

i want to learn if independent is going to be the ticket or if horse's and brute strength is the way to go as far as competing is concerned. Or maybe even something besides driveshafts and axles?:confused:

I want to know how to setup a kick ass airbag suspensions on already lifted XJ. Coils front, leaves rear.

#1. I want to learn how to build a coilover suspension, I have a pretty good idea of what needs to be done but I don`t how to test my idea before I spend time building it. Need more math to figure these things out.

#2. I want to learn the cheapest way possible to finsh my current project.

Maby we can get a thread that has a list of rules for each state like that long jeep junk yard thread.

like bumper heights, mud flaps hights, fender flare widths, lights, spools, beadlocks....

air compressors and air tools and what you can do with them. We got a compressor at work (machine shop) and 1 air tool that I can think of (little thing to get alan bolts on and off quick).

Get the right lash on a Detroit lockers... Get a good pattern on the ring, but the lash never seems quite right!

I would like to learn how to set up a coil/ link type of suspension and how to weld and bend tube, and general fabrication, I am also starting to get interested in machining too. I also need to learn to fix my junk (or rather how to not procrastrinate) and how to drive better.:rolleyes:

I want to learn to weld. I'd like to be able to make my own repairs without paying through the teeth for it. I'd also like to learn more about auto wiring, it takes me forever to do the electric part of a car. Trial and error.

I wanna learn how to do 3/4 eliptical's with an air bag from scratch.

I wanna learn how to post on the PBB without insulting anybody!

Beyond that I'd like to learn to remain calm when commuting and work on my Flattie all day without having a real job taking up the majority of my life.

I would really like to learn how to install the tbi set up that Ive got for my 4.3. Im not asking too much or too little am I? Mianly the wire harness and such.

why isn't there more talk of using doubled transfer cases like the toyota guys?

Already learned it!! Never run "experimental anything" in a UROC,CALROC or RCCA event!! Travel 1200 miles to break on the first obstacle just to find out yer experiment won't let you remove the broken axle!! Turn around and drive home.

Guess I didn't learn shit!!:rolleyes: Spent all day Sunday in the machine shop with Tom making crazy,one-off parts fer the new front end.We'll see how it holds up in Farmington!

Keep my piece of crap on the trail. I am always working on it and never wheeling it. I'll build some fancy bumper or air tank then sell it to a budy before I ever get to use it. Built a 9" last winter, sold it last spring to pay my taxes. Rebuilt a 302 and aod last summer, sold it to pay uncle sam again. I guess I really need to find out how to get out of paying uncle sam every year!

I want to learn about all this stuff, I just bought a 78 CJ and in the coming months I'm going to be doing two axle swaps, high steering, reverse shackles, setting 4.88 gears, and a bunch of other stuff ;)

Mo what about Skipping a bit of things and come up with say 3 version of different types of suspensions that can built and installed on a jeep. We have a general guide line in size and weight some are longer and some weigh more but in general you could design a suspension and let it be copied.

Say three different version of a 4 link for X wheel base X weight jeep. like links 45 in length placed 4 above axle center 10 inside of frame using X component.

As a basic guide line if you will for those interested in this type of conversion. So that we can get past some of the dumb questions and get to more intelligent tech in this area.

I would like to learn how to make enough money to pay my Jeep debt off. The manwhore thing sounds like the best idea. With my luck, it would be like that movie. I'd get stuck with some freaks.

I am learning to weld right now... so I want to know about installing gears and lockers.
Rebuild an C6 tranny and hydro steering (how to set it up for front and back). Also the best way to setup cutting brakes.

I think a topic of the week discussing cool fab projects complete with metal dimensions needed and instructions (for welding neophytes like myself) would be kind of cool. I never have enough creativity to come up with cool projects.

Since we've covered a lot of topics like fabrication and suspension design, why don't we do a TOTW on wiring. We seem to have a lot of topics on fuel injection conversions, but no one ever mentions the actual wiring side of it. What kinds of harnesses are used or how to blend the two harnesses together. I'd really like to learn from the pros as to how to make a good sano wiring harness.

I am currently wiring my 4.0 swap into my old cj5. Some things I've noticed are:

Splicing more than two wires together. It sounds dumb but think about it. Chrysler would just run 6 or so wires together, put a crimp fitting around them all, solder, and wrap with duct tape. It works, but looks like hell. Any better methods?

Correct wire gauges etc.... I bet there are a lot of people that have no idea how to choose the correct size wire.

Connectors. Where are people gettin there connectors, and not just simple wire connectors. How about fuse and switch panels, where do you find bulkhead connectors etc..... And for that matter where does one find all those neat multicolored wires to use.

Lastly what are some tips to clean up and make a really awesome wiring install.

Any how, its just an idea I had.

Noob here with a vote for gear install...I have done it before and fucked it up before too. I am about to attempt to put a gearset in my 9" and I guess I should "read the #$%^# instructions" first.
Another good topic might be something like Welding 101. I am sure there are a lot of guys out there that would love to learn.

Things I will be doing in the near future:

Making my own frame
Making my own fuel cell (incorporated into my bed)
Making (or buying maybe) a wiring harness
Making the engine waterproof
Making cheap power from a tbi 350 (supercharger likely)
Setting up my own gears/installing ARBs
Rear HP 60
Design/Build custom 'cage (indo and exo)
Bobbing a YJ tub
Bobbing a CJ/YJ hard top
"bulletproofing" undercarriage
Making drag links/tierods
More I am sure

I really don't know how to do all of that but I'm not scared of researching and doing it. Ultimately I wnat to be able to say I built my whole vehicle without "professional" help (not counting my therapist).

Maybe some good TOTW from the above:

Wiring- How to make a harness, How to Waterproof, What connections, What to include in each circut, What NOT to do, Protectin wire "runs", etc.

Fuel System- How to fab a fuel cell, size, shallow cell fuel pick-ups, pump placement, what psi for what engine, line protection, excessive angle delivery, etc.

Bodywork- More than basic crap...really want to know how to graft together fiberglass neatly. But maybe cutting out and replacing panels (metal and 'glass), armor, whatever else.

Chassis 101- Square stock v. full on tube, critical points, Jeep measurements, what NOT to do.

Power 101- Elementary building of power, what to do for torque, what to do for horse power, what is a good balance.

Exhaust Tech- Single v. dual, header v. manifold, mufflers that produce better power, routing, materials, header size, etc.

Interior Tech- What carpet should I get, What seats will fit, Color coordination, etc.:flipoff2:

Just some ideas that i personally will be facing. I know it is all out there on the WWW but it would be nice to have some of these points of interest happily right here and concise and to the point.

I'm still a newbie at a lot of this, but I started buying parts to build up a CJ-5 that's been my garage queen for too many years. I'm currently tearing it apart down the frame. I going to learn how to:

Weld
R&P setup for lockers
design 3 & 4 link suspensions
engine swap a AMC 360 into it
TBI conversion on the AMC 360
automatic tranny swap
install 4:1 gears in the transfer case
install new wire harness
intall a fuel cell
bob the bed to CJ-8 cab size (it's a fiberglass tub)
tube fenders

I've thought about doing the cage myself, but while I still consider myself inexperienced as a welder, I'd rather pay someone qualified for something that will save my life.

I have a big list.

Axle assembly including R+P set ups.
Welding.
Engine overhaul.
Engine swapping.
SOA set up on our CJ-7.

I have done a lot of this type of work on airplanes but never on Jeeps.

I think Ring and Pinion installation would be a great topic. Just a step by step run through on how to install a set of gears in an axle and defining in laymens terms the vocab that goes along with the installation.

How about it if some of these people learn how to maintain their Hi-Lift? All too often I have to pull mine out because someone has a brand new one that has never been broken in, or an old rusty one that has never seen any oil other than when they absolutely need it-when it's too late.:confused:

I'd really like to learn how to rebuild and sup-up an LT5 and swap it in my XJ.
I'd also like to learn how to do a gap to frontside boardslide on the 23 stair handrail on the southwest corner of my Universities' campus. Not for this forum, but it's what I want to learn.

i'd like to learn how to weld and how to setup gear sets, hopefully will be doing the latter soon.

I just want to learn more general knowledge on Jeeps and cars in general. I'm starting with a Rubicon Express 4.5 on my ZJ, and hopefully from there not only my mechanical knowledge will progress, but hopefully my wheeling skill as well. Should be interesting. Ultimately I want to learn how to build an awesome daily driver and how to do the majority of my own wrenching.

-real world experience extending wheelbase
-ways to extend wheelbase and still be legal on the street with the rear cutout
-best way to mount cage through body to frame (solid mount or body mount in between?)

I can help some on setting up gears, of course I've only done it twice but they haven't blown up yet even after not quite breaking them in properly (long rides and early wheeling)
