I thought i remember it being said that the knuckles are the same on both the 10 bolt and the dana 44's. Is this correct info??

Thanks in advance

The tie rod ends go in from the bottom on a 44, and from the top on a 10 bolt, so one tapers toward the top, and one toward the bottom. The first design 44 knuckles had flat tops on both sides, second design ('76 and later?) were flat on LH only for the steering arm. As far as the interface to the axle housing and the interface to the spindles, they are all the same.

One more thing too. 3/4 ton D44 have taper from the top. 1/2 ton D44 have taper from the bottom. I don't know if this also applies to 10 bolts in 3/4 and 1/2 ton versions, but is something I noticed on D44s.

The tie rods on both my 44s go in from the top. One is a 1970, dont know the other, both have flat tops on both sides.

44s had tierods that came in sometimes from the top and sometimes from the bottom. It all depended on where chevy wanted it. I just did the 10 bolt to 44 swap and still used the 1" dia. tierod. Parts for the newer 10 bolt tierods are cheaper.
