: Solidworks frame for suspension design
Jason M 01-07-2003, 08:07 AM A buddy is working on a coil rear suspension for my cruiser.
He built the frame in solidworks (not quite done yet) to see what would work well.
here are some pics.
Anyone have and comments about it?
When the suspension is modeled I will post that too

Good Times;)
GloNDark 01-07-2003, 08:46 AM Damn Tommy does good work huh?? :D:D Can't wait to see what he comes up with. :D
that looks good. It takes a fari amount of practice to use solidworks well.
solidworks is the shit because you can now cycle your suspension before building it.
when you are done i wouldn't mind a copy
cruiseroutfit 01-07-2003, 09:06 AM Or use Pro-E and you can analyze just about every aspect of it...:D (I'm sure solidworks does it too!) :D
rugburn 01-07-2003, 09:25 AM SolidWorks gives you a variety of mass property infomration as well as FEA (finite element analysis) info all for less than $4,000.00.
It is the schiznit!;)
BJ On Roids 01-07-2003, 04:47 PM ill take a copy  that is pretty sweet

Been using solidworks for years and didn't know FEA was included
LCOwner 01-07-2003, 07:45 PM I'd liike a copy too if ya don't mind. Thanks.
Jason M 01-08-2003, 07:19 AM Sure thing,
As soon as the complete frame is modeled (including the body mounts) I'll get you guys a copy of the file.
Ballard 01-08-2003, 08:06 AM I've got the same thing in Autodesk Inventor. I made it too correct so it's stinkin huge though. It stalled my old computer. I just bought a 2.2 GHz P4 w/ 1G of RAM and it runs just peachy even with the tub assembly on it now. :D
Somebody on the General board was setting up a download site for 3D geometry a few weeks ago. I haven't checked it out though.
BJ On Roids 01-08-2003, 02:07 PM nice i can cop any size emails but over 12mb starts to slow me down :D
Mark '73 FJ40 01-09-2003, 08:47 AM FEA isn't included. You have to pay extra for it.
Solidworks does have a free viewer so anybody can open their files up.
You can even make AVI's of your suspension flexing and send it to your friends. Usually under 1MEG in size so they are email friendly.
Ballard 01-10-2003, 07:06 PM I've been messing around with this in Inventor. I hope to get back at it this weekend.
Ballard 01-10-2003, 07:07 PM The frame
climbermike 01-10-2003, 07:33 PM Todd, better POR15 that frame. :flipoff2: :D
Ballard 01-12-2003, 03:39 PM This one's even shinier.:flipoff2:

Cosmos Express comes with SolidWorks 2003.
No extra charge.;)
Got this from SolidWorks last night:
COSMOSXpress - Analysis Tool Inside SolidWorks 2003: February 27th at 1:30 PM EST
COSMOSXpressTM wizard, a new design verification tool built in to SolidWorks 2003 software, can help designers determine how designs will perform under real-world conditions, and can identify potential design flaws before they are built into expensive physical prototypes. This seminar is specifically designed for non-SolidWorks users.
You will need a phone line for audio and an Internet connection to view the webcast.

Ok, well that is new and cool.
I have been out of the SolidWorks thing for almost a year.
Still got it installed on my computer though.
I think I'll try modelling up some stuff.
