I dont think i see a solid axle up front. WTF is Toyota's problem?!:(
Looks kinda cool anyway. Also, WTF is up with the dub's? Forget about trying to replace the fawking pansy ass tires Toyota's gonna put on it if it ever does make it to the dealers!

Fugly!

Only thing "keepin' it real" I think is the bezel. Otherwise you have an Izusu Axium or one of those god aweful Honda monstrocities :barf:

too bad they can't follow the lead of L.R. Defender instead of a Fawken Xterra :mad3: Ifs, long wheelbase w/ only 2 doors that thing would :nuke: in all but the :rainbow: community, which at the rate things are going it would be a huge success!! :flipoff2:

I think Rover is just as :rainbow: in the US markets. Their latest addition to the line of "the best 4x4 in the world" is the Freelander, basically the same as a Rav 4 or a Honda CRV. The Defender is a early 80s version to finally upgrading the old Series III, which was basically about 95% as the original IIA from 1960. So the Defender is about a 40 year old design. And guess what, line will be dropped in 2008 and probably replaced with something just as :rainbow:

I think the good 4wd is a dying breed :(

I think for what it is, its fine. I would take one if the price was right. Nothing will ever replace the real FJ series. It would be cool if they put some real axels under it. I will volunteer to take the first one off the lot, and pimp it out with some 80 axles with the e-lockers.;) ;) :D

That thing couldn't even haul the F motor it doesn't have. Shouldn't it be called the 3VZREX%$^&$-J if toyota followed through with their model numbers?

The white roof makes it look more like a mini-Cooper than a FJ:barf:

the FJ Cruiser can be converted into a utility deck large enough for two people in their sleeping bags. :massey::bounce:Yeah baby, it's a shag-wagon !!! :bounce::massey:

Well, it's basically a Tacoma...so, a SAS shouldn't be too hard... Then it needs to have the body trimmed for clearance, put 42's on there, roll it down a few hills, and you'll have a hard time telling it from a real cruiser...except when you go in to get warrenty work done because the cd player has mysteriously started skipping :flipoff2:

For years I've been hearing rants about they should bring back the 40, followed by speculations that we would never accept what they would bring back. Well, this is it and I don't think it's all that bad. gotta remember this is a concept styling exersize. It's going in the right direction. The Taco is a good base to start from. Better than a RAV-4 or RS300. The Taco's got a live rear axle, e-locker option, real transfer case with low range. I don't know what this one has until it come to the Windy show in Feb, but I sure plan to go check it out. At least they are looking at the best looking truck ever produced for inspiration.
I would sure rather have the FJ Cruiser than most other new 4Xs out there. Have you seen that goofy new Honda that actually made it to production? How about an H2 - the Aztek of SUVs?

Ford seems to be the only ones really bringing back cool retros based on classic designs. The t-bird and the GT-40 are pretty sweet, but I think they missed big time on the Mustang.

Anyone else think that new honda THING looks like the body panels rusted away, they patched them, primered them, and left them that way?

Looks like ghetto paint is becoming fashionable...And we don't have to spend 20+K to get it!

The production one probably wouldn't be so BLING BLING!

I think I'd at least check it out. Better then a Rav4.

The whole retro design thing is getting old.

For what it is I like it alot. They borrowed lots of design cues from the FJ40 which is nice. The rounded rear corner windows, the bezel, the white roof. They put the license plate holder on the wrong side though.

I would much prefer to be able to buy a 70 series or any of the foreign market cruisers but the US govt has screwed us there. And even if Toyota USA did sell them I doubt many folks in the US would buy them.

Hopefully Toyota USA will build this and then make a version something like the Rubicon with a SFA, blah blah blah.

I am on the bandwagon for sure. it is pretty sweet when compared with what is on the market. it has been noted but one of those in a "rubicon" verison would actually re-new the cruiser vs. J**p rivalry. no vehicles really rival jeep with new production, somewhat trail ready, vehicles. and say it costs the same as a tacoma, very cool!

by the way........F- the Nay sayers!

that is sweet, i might even go with a 100 series front diff under it, just cause the IFS stuff is smaller and weaker!!

I just thought of something...That thing looks almost identical to the heep 'willys 2' concept...except for the rounded rear windows, white roof, bezel, and turn signals...

So, is Toyota back to taking heep's design and building upon it?? They did pretty damn well last time :D

I think this might help...

I just read through all the literature & here are some of the options that will be available:
- full roll cage
- on-board air
- Snorkel
- lockers
- on-board welder
- dana 60 axles (front and rear)

and get this... there is also a version of this that comes lowered with many racing goodies..

NOW THAT IS PROGRESS! :flipoff2:

Personally I think they should do to the FJ like they did with that FJ45 wagon. Take an old design update it with modern drive train, seats, comfort, etc. The FJ45 wagon that those toyota guys did looked awesome. There really isn't anything out there that is designed like the heep, and cruiser would give it heep a run for it's money, now that the FJ40 is given credit where it's due. My personal thoughts tho. I'de rather have the mega cruiser :flipoff2: the japanese version of the hummer.

I'd give up the 4 doors in aheartbeat for a removeable top option.

Not that there is anything wrong with 45 wagons, or 55's, or 60's, or 62's....

I had some photochop time today- my star is out. Who wants a pic without a top?

dunno if I like it now. Looks like a VW thing.

Automotive News, a dealer industry rag, says the FJ Cruiser is a production possibility and would be in showrooms by 2005.

For just about the first time ever I'd like an automaker take a cue from the blue oval and design their "retro" vehicle to look just like the classic that supposedly inspired it, i.e. the Ford GT.

When the proto Hummer 2 was making the show circuit a few years back, I caught a close up look at SEMA and was not impressed. All the plastic chrome cladding and the rounded corners, not to mention the weak underpinnings, all served as the piss watering down a semi-successfull formula. Sure enough, the production version arrived in the showrooms with little changed from the proto. Complete image p.o.s. I only hope the same does not happen with this FJ, but I've got one of those feelings.....
