If its a 1972 and newer, you need a smog check and a Vin verification.:D

We did this about 3 years ago or so. We bought a rig out of Texas. It was a '99. It passed smog no problem and was easy to register. ACCEPT, the FAWKERS charged us California sales tax on the amount we paid. I can buy anything else out of state and I don't have to pay california sales tax. Why do I have to pay it on a vehicle!
Get a bill of sale with a low $$ amount.
To the DMV: :flipoff: :flipoff: :flipoff:

This is an always when buying a used vehicle.
You are lucky you are not doing this 6 years ago like when I brought my YJ back into the state after living in Az. for several years. There was an enviromental impact fee. Registration cost me well over $500:rolleyes:
Agreed... have the seller write up two bills of sale... one for the real amount, and one that you'll show the DMV so you don't get ripped. After registration fees and such you end up paying about 10% of sale price. I just did this with a WA to CA import.
If it's 77 or newer (CA smog is 25 years old right?) and it won't pass smog, PM me, I can refer you to someone who can "help".

I lived in San Clemente for a while. When I tried to register my truck, which was a California emissions model, I was quoted over 800 bones, cause it had been registered in Cali, then Missouri, then trying to go back to Cali. You might go to the DAMMV and see what they say..I just kept my MO plates.

California is still at 74 for smog:rolleyes:
You are right.. it's 30 years not 25.
