I picked up a dana 70 with limited slip unit in it, want to put unit in the rear of my dually with single slip rear. Does the 70 set up with shims or does it have spanners like the ford 9 in and the dana 60?

They set up with shims.

Be careful, the D70 in you dually is most likely a D70HD. If it is an HD axle then parts from a non-HD axle will not fit.

Is there an easy way to tell the difference between the 70hd and the regular one? The other one I have is just a center section with the tubes lopped off. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, look at the regular spot in the webbing where they have 44, 60, 70, etc. cast for identification. An HD housing will say "70HD" in that spot.

Upon further review...

I stated incorrectly on the location of the "HD" marking, it is on the other side ( front ) of the webbing on top ( passenger side ). As in if you were looking at the rear axle from the transfer case it would be on the top left side of the webbing.

Sorry for any confusion.

Dana 60s (and 70s) use shims, not spanner (Also, the stupid fawkers put the shims under the bearings, making then a PITA to work on).

And what the fawk is a "single slip rear"? And how does it compare to an open diff? :flipoff2:
